  • 2nd Day in Budva Montenegro

    6 de junio de 2024, Montenegro ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

We had a quiet day today so don't have much to report. We walked to the beach which is at least 15 minutes downhill and longer coming back up! We had a lovely relaxing day on sunbeds on the beach reading our kindles. The beds and umbrellas are free if you buy a drink so definitely a bargain compared to Kotor where they are apparently 25 euros for 2 beds and an umbrella! We will be visiting a little further down the coast tomorrow.Leer más

  • Petrovac, Montenegro Day 1

    7 de junio de 2024, Montenegro ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

We have only moved about 20 km but this is such a lovely town and the apartment is fabulous. This is so much nicer than Budva (in our opinion). This feels like a place where we could holiday rather than travel to or through. Petrovac (pronounced something like Petrovas or Petrovash) from what we have seen so far has a lovely rocky bay and restaurants. We initially booked 2 nights but have asked to extend to a third night so we can enjoy a mix or relaxing and exploring.Leer más

  • Petrovac, Montenegro Day 2

    8 de junio de 2024, Montenegro ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

We started the coastal route this morning which was very uphill for quite a way. Apparently, it is an easy to moderate walk (umm). I think everyone should keep in mind that Montenegro is beautiful because of its scenic hills and mountains. It was extremely warm! After a while we got to where we thought the half way point was and it started to go downhill ...steeply. As this isn't a circular route and the route home would be a lot of uphill we decided to abort and head back the way we came. I think this was a good decision based on the heat and hills! We had a lovely lunch out today and then returned for some further relaxation.Leer más

  • Final full day in Petrovac

    9 de junio de 2024, Montenegro ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Lovely day, doing very little! We went to the beach and one lady told us the sunbeds were 15 euros which is not dissimilar to Spain so we chilled on them for just over an hour. A guy came along and told us they were 25 euros unless you were a resident of the hotel, to which we replied 'no thankyou' and left. We had a lovely meal away from the beach which cost about 10 euros more than the sunbeds. ...definitely preferable! PS the innocent clear liquid that was given as a 'present' was not innocent. I think my throat has stopped burning now!Leer más

  • Montenegro Day 1 Ulcinj

    10 de junio de 2024, Montenegro ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

So a bit of a bus station day today.! We arrived at 9 am for 9. 25 am bus and was told the bus is 10.10 am. 10.10 came and went and it was intimated that it was delayed. Around 11 am a minibus arrived took one look at the number of people waiting and shut the doors and drove away. I went to the 'counter' and changed the tickets for the 11.58 bus.. I received two euros back as it was a cheaper carrier. After 12 another minibus arrived I was at the front of the queue and somehow secured the last two seats while Pete put the bags on. We then travelled to Ulcinj on a very questionable bus with a driver who assumed right of way anywhere and everywhere. His driving was interesting and we stood up when he went over the bumps as it was kinder on our backs. I have included a picture of the minibus but I don't think I can recapture the experience. We arrived and was collected by our lovely host from the bus station. We have eaten and explored a little. Our view and apartment is just amazing especially considering how little we paid. I feel like we have been upgraded. There are lots of steps but ohhhh the views!Leer más

  • Final full day in Ulcinj

    11 de junio de 2024, Montenegro ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

We had a good day, exploring the Old Town, walking by the beach and up and down lots of steps. Mainly relaxation today so not too much to report. However, we still got the step count over 10,000 with steep ascents. We will be on the move again tomorrow.Leer más

  • Another New Country..

    12 de junio de 2024, Albania ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Arrived in Albania this afternoon.. We are staying overnight in Shkoder before moving on tomorrow.. We have had a walk around the town but not gone aa far as the lake because that is quite a distance from the main town. We changed some Euros to Lek as using this currency is essential (We had researched this ahead of time and debit cards arent really accepted). People we have met so far seem friendly. We think this looks like an up and coming area and there is quite a bit of development work going on..Leer más

  • Tirana, Albania

    13 de junio de 2024, Albania ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

It was approximately 2 and a half hours by bus from Shkoder to Tirana. On the bus we spotted two huge eagles, unfortunately we didn't get to photograph them, we were too slow. There appears to be a lot of rural industry, local people selling fruit and vegetables, a team making beach sunshades from woven straw or raffia and another set of people making what we think were dog kennels! The scenery was very rural until 20 km or so before we got to Tirana. Tirana is a very modern city, it has things that are common to many cities including begging and a certain level of pollution. Most of the women in this part of Tirana dress very smartly, I felt decidedly under dressed. We had a good walk round and a lunch out. Not many photos today as I wouldn't say it is the most beautiful city. There is a photo of the 'castle'.Leer más

  • Travelling to Saranda, Albania

    14 de junio de 2024, Albania ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

We had a very scenic bus route to Saranda (also seems to be called Sarande). It took a bit over 5 hours and the views really were amazing. It reminded me a little of race across the world as people flag down the bus on the way and it stops in some unexpected places. We haven't got many pictures as we have got here, unpacked, eaten and are chilling. We also bought washing powder from a 'washing powder' shop and you pay for it by the kilo. Hopefully, we will have some better photos tomorrow. The view across to Corfu looks pretty.Leer más

  • First full day in Saranda

    15 de junio de 2024, Albania ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Good evening. We have had a relaxing day today. We have been to the rocky beach. Although this is a relatively touristy area in Albania life is still different to other parts of Europe. We bought fish from the fishmonger, vegetables from the greengrocers and bread from the bakers....that is the norm here and there are lots of things that you can't buy in the supermarket. We have eaten a simple barbeque and are enjoying a glass of wine.Leer más

  • Last day in Saranda

    17 de junio de 2024, Albania ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

Well we have had a very positive experience here in Saranda. I understand it feels quite different and very busy in August. The people have been lovely, nobody is pushy to sell things and they genuinely seem to want you to have a good time. We had another day on the beach, it is stony but the water is beautifully clear. Tonight our neighbours brought us homegrown cucumber, courgette and apricots. We went out for an early evening drink near to where we are staying. We ordered a glass of red wine each which was the cheapest so far, the total was 400 leke which is probably around £3.50....it did slightly resemble lighter fluid....I think this is why my face is glowing in the picture! We are moving on tomorrow.Leer más

  • Whistlestop Corfu!

    19 de junio de 2024, Grecia ⋅ ☀️ 32 °C

We took a ferry from Saranda to Corfu. The ferry was really full. We arrived this afternoon to very hot weather....hottest yet! This is an overnight stop and we will be moving on early tomorrow.

  • Paxos

    20 de junio de 2024, Grecia ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

How beautiful Paxos is....we have met up with Caroline and Paul and will only post now if we are doing something other than r and r. The place we are staying in is fabulous but up a steep incline. We will only tackle the hill back maximum of once a day! There are goats, chickens, cockerels, chicks, lizards and lots of cats!Leer más

  • Paxos and Antipaxos

    29 de junio de 2024, Grecia ⋅ ☀️ 26 °C

Well what a fantastic day! I would highly recommend Paxos with a visit to the sandy beach of Antipaxos (15 minutes by boat). The beach is amazing and looks just like the Caribbean.
The port of Gaois on Paxos is really beautiful too, the architecture looks Venetian. Coming back to the villa our taxi broke down but she called her husband who is also a taxi driver and we only waited a few minutes. A thoroughly lovely day!Leer más

  • New location...Lefkada

    1 de julio de 2024, Grecia ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

We left Paxos bright and early this morning and took the ferry to Lefkada. Lefkada looks very different ...much flatter for a start. The ferry crossing was about 3 hours. There was a swing bridge into the port. We went out to eat and listened to a group of Greek singers.Leer más

  • Final evening....

    8 de julio de 2024, Grecia ⋅ ☀️ 31 °C
