Officially landed!
Bath, England
30. März 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 57 °F
Train delays were a little rough coming in, but Bath is beautiful!
Stonehenge
31. März 2023 in England ⋅ 🌧 50 °F
Cold and very windy, but actually neater than I thought it'd be! The weather meant there were a lot fewer people than usual, so that made it a much better, more intimate experience than I was bankingWeiterlesen
Avebury
31. März 2023 in England ⋅ 🌧 52 °F
Stone circle with a village right in the middle of it. Not as famous or well preserved as Stonehenge, but at least as old and you're able to walk right up to it (completely free). Also nearby SilburyWeiterlesen
Lacock and Castle Combe
31. März 2023 in England
Two of the most well-preserved medieval villages in Europe, both often used as filming (such as BBC's Pride and Prejudice, Downton Abbey, and the Harry Potter films). The pic of me is with an originalWeiterlesen
Wells
1. April 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 52 °F
Was originally going to Glastonbury, but it got rained out and flooded, so... here's Wells! Well-preserved medieval city with famous cathedral and choir. Included yet another pic of me with an oldWeiterlesen
Chipping Campden (and nearby)
2. April 2023 in England ⋅ ☀️ 52 °F
It was a long hike in from Moreton-in-Marsh (nearest train station, and the buses don't run here on Sundays), and it was at least 2/3 uphill 🙃 But the countryside is absolutely gorgeous and theWeiterlesen
More Chipping Campden plus day hike
3. April 2023 in England ⋅ ⛅ 43 °F
Wandered around the town, then did a loop hike through Narcomb Wood and back to Blockley. Found another old door (Chipping Campden church, which is neat and old).
Stow-on-the-Wold + Bourton-on-the-Water
4. April 2023 in England ⋅ ☀️ 52 °F
More Cotswolds. Bourton is a lot more touristy than any of the other Cotswold villages I've visited so far, but can't deny it's gorgeous so I guess I can see why lol. Found another neat old door inWeiterlesen
Blenheim Palace
5. April 2023 in England ⋅ 🌧 50 °F
Birthplace of Winston Churchill. Rained on me again, so didn't see as much of the gardens as I'd originally planned to, but did add in Woodstock (adjacent old 13th century village).
Castlerigg Stone Circle
6. April 2023 in England ⋅ 🌬 48 °F
Windy on top of the hill, but I very briefly had the circle to myself! Also included are pics of the hike from Keswick to Castlerigg (and a couple of Keswick itself). The ruins pictured are PenrithWeiterlesen
Catbells and Friar's Crag hikes
7. April 2023 in England ⋅ ☀️ 46 °F
Gorgeous hikes around Lake Derwentwater! I'll admit hiking up Catbells was pretty challenging, though, with a lot of steep rock scrambling. But I successfully did not fall off the fell! You can seeWeiterlesen
Buttermere hike
8. April 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 52 °F
Been blessed with gorgeous weather for these recent hikes! This one is the next lake over from Derwentwater.
Penrith Castle
9. April 2023 in England ⋅ ⛅ 48 °F
These 14th century ruins were across the street from the train station. Just there, for anybody to ramble around. Best park ever.
Edinburgh
9. April 2023 in Schottland ⋅ ☁️ 55 °F
The architecture in this city is fantastic 😍 There will surely be more Edinburgh pics to follow. And yes, found another old door :P This one is attached to Mercat Cross. Also there was an actualWeiterlesen
Edinburgh Castle
10. April 2023 in Schottland ⋅ ⛅ 50 °F
There was a lot more to it than I expected. Crowded, of course, but such a neat complex! And yes, I took another door picture. This one's from the castle prison. The small building in the pics is theWeiterlesen
National Museum of Scotland
10. April 2023 in Schottland ⋅ 🌬 52 °F
I took pics of a select few of the neater exhibits -- not even a fraction of the stuff they had there. History overload in the best way 🥰😭 Plus me with a neat old gate.
Old Calton Cemetery
10. April 2023 in Schottland ⋅ ☁️ 52 °F
Neat. Old. Several famous "residents."
Calton Hill
10. April 2023 in Schottland ⋅ ⛅ 48 °F
Bit windy, but beautiful views over the town and the sea!
Glencoe and the Scottish Highlands
11. April 2023 in Schottland ⋅ ⛅ 41 °F
Such gorgeous scenery everywhere! The snowcapped mountain with a couple shorter snowy mountains alongside it is Ben Nevis, the tallest mountain in the UK.
Loch Ness
11. April 2023 in Schottland ⋅ ☁️ 46 °F
I wasn't initially that interested in Loch Ness due to the gimmicky factor, but it turned out to be absolutely beautiful out there. I retract my uninformed criticism :P Also got a couple pictures ofWeiterlesen
Train out of Edinburgh
12. April 2023 in England ⋅ 🌬 41 °F
The first leg of the train ride out of Edinburgh was really scenic, following the coastline, so I tried to snag some pics.
Durham
12. April 2023 in England ⋅ ☁️ 46 °F
Durham Cathedral, and some of the city itself, were really neat! Fyi, the cathedral was one of the filming locations for Hogwarts in Harry Potter, in case the cloisters look familiar :P The woodenWeiterlesen
York
12. April 2023 in England ⋅ 🌬 46 °F
There will undoubtedly be more York to come, especially when I actually go into the Minster. History is so accessible here, it's amazing. The pic that looks like the ruins of the inside of a towerWeiterlesen
York Minster
13. April 2023 in England ⋅ 🌬 46 °F
More of York Minster, now that I actually went inside it. The history of the site goes back to Roman times, so they have exhibits of that and of the old Norman church that predated it (both of whichWeiterlesen
