Cruisey Days on the South Side of Lofoten

Waking up to sunshine and not a breath of wind was a true treat, and as we exited our bay the stunning view really made us feel like we had made it to paradise. It was even warm(ish)! Given the beautiful weather, we headed around the corner to check out a spot for Russell to paraglide. Angela had some fun trying to sail with the wind chasing her around, and we found a very cute, shallow little bay that was only just big enough for us, and had a bit of a panic when we looked over the side and noticed a pipe running along the bottom. It wasn’t in any of the charts, but luckily our anchor had missed it by about 10 meters. A nice run through the village showed that unfortunately all of the possible paragliding landings had power lines running through them, but there was one option if the conditions were perfect and Russell had the guts…So the next day (after a night of wind and rain) we hiked up the mountain. It wasn’t quite right for Russell to fly though, so he had to make do with some ground handling at the top of the mountain. Incredibly frustrating given how stunning the day was, but with no easy landings it wasn’t going to work. It was, however, a stunning hike and we settled for watching the views and some eagles soaring around showing Russell how it’s done. Our next bay was another stunning spot within the Svellingsflaket islands. Crystal clear water and sunny weather meant we even went for another swim! We found ripe cloudberries and blueberries for the first time the next morning, which was insanely exciting!!Read more
