    Saturday at the Surfrider

    Spent a lazy day exploring the historic Moana Surfrider at Waikiki, constructed in 1916. It was the first resort to be built in Waikiki, and a preferred destination for Hawaiian royalty. The resort retains its olde worlde charm, including excellent table service of high teas and elegant dining.
    The second floor of the building houses an excellent historic museum which tells the story of the origin of surfing. The original building is magnificent, and a definite favourite for Japanese brides. I saw at least six while I was there for the final three days of my holiday.    Les mer

    Aloha festival

    Saturday evening was a pleasant surprise! I decided to go for a walk into the main street of Waikiki. First, I watched the sun sink below the horizon dotted with yachts full of sunset revellers, then headed through the lobby onto the street. The difference was astounding! There was live music, street food and people everywhere. I soon found out it was Aloha Week and I had stumbled into the street festival. I even tried the beer, just for its label. Unfortunately I was sorely disappointed!Les mer

    Last day in Hawaii

    Had another relaxing day, beginning with yoga in front of the resort. After breakfast I went for a walk and discovered a fabulous shop selling antiques and aloha shirts. Of course I got a couple for Harry and Dom.... Hope they like them. It was so hard to choose, the shop was crammed full of historic designer shirts as well as more recent ones.Les mer

    Finally home

    Got on the plane at 1.30pm on the 19th September, crossed over the international date line, and arrived in Sydney about 8.30pm on the 20th. Stayed at the Ibis hotel near the airport, and the next morning headed to the domestic airport. I was very keen to get home, so managed to change my flight so I could get back home the same day, rather than over-nighting in Brisbane. So happy to be home!💫Les mer
