    Day 1 getting there

    February 2, 2024 in Spain ⋅ 🌙 18 °C

Lift from Carlos, our house sitter to the station. Train to the airport, awful terminal 3, met a couple buying a house in Spain. Flight fine and transfer. Into our apartment in Maspalomas by 8pm. Time for a drink watching the singer, Helz had a dance, then bed 🛌 😴 walked about 5 milesRead more

  • Day 2 Playa des Ingles

    February 3, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Had a coffee then wandered into Playa des ingles, via the mini golf mini golf! Found a sports bar for the rugby, then walked the front and ended up watching a young xylophone player, who was great. Back to watch the game, so bad left before half time, then watched the 2nd half on the way back, a great come back. Back at base our drunk Dutch neighbours accosted us, escaped to watch TV and bedRead more

  • Dune walking

    February 4, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Walked to the dunes panoramic point, very dramatic and impressive dunes. Walked the coast path to playa del ingles (mass German oldies dancing👯‍♂️ !!) and a bit further on. 8 miles walked altogether today. Stopped for a rest and some food, espedata kebab, not that great. Back home, watched a rubbish singer, then an earlyish nightRead more

  • The boat trip (1)

    February 6, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Coach to puerto Rico for our catamaran. A lovely day, but no dolphin sightings. Beer and lunch on the go, then a stop for a coldish swim and a fun banana boat run. Back home for evening drinks, but Helen needed a snooze after the gins 😴. Went to the tipsy hammock for late drinks and a snack before home for bed 🤪Read more

  • Puerto de Mogan

    February 7, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Bus advice for Puerto Mogan messed us up as it didn't stop where it said, so headed for the dunes, then the no 32 showed up. So hopped on and off we went. What a delightful place, nice beach, but a bit of exploring showed a fab little harbour and loads of nice cafes and restaurants. A great little tapas in a Norwegian owned place then home. Promised Helen a trip to the Gay district, so we visited 'Sparkles' Show bar. Lots of giant witty drag queens, but we were so knackered that we headed home at midnightRead more

  • A ferry long way!

    February 8, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

Caught the bus just outside our hotel, easy peasy. Got to Las palmas and saw there was a food market, so checked it out, very nice. The girl seemed to think that it was just a 15 minute walk over to the ferry, but how wrong she was! Didn't help that google couldn't locate the Dock we were sailing from and we ended up walking miles (1 hour +) and made it with literally 5 minutes to spare. Sweated buckets and smashed our steps target 🏃‍♀️ . The ferry was quiet, briefly spotted some dolphins 🐬 then arrived in Tenerife. Hotel right in the centre overlooking the Festival stage. Had a shower and went for a wander and ended up in a funky bar. An adventurous 8 mile walking dayRead more

  • Over to Puerto de la cruz

    February 9, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Time for a late checkout so had an explore of the shops (more Wynn shopping 🛍), had a coffee watching the world go by. After checking out at midday we hung around, had a ripoff paella, then hunted down our bus. Very busy on the roads and when we got to Puerto, discovered it was a long trek uphill and lots of steps to our airbnb. Sweating and knackered again. Walked into town later, had a nice meal and visited the Irish bar. Taxi back at 5 eurosRead more

  • Carnival time

    February 10, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 19 °C

Got the bus up to historic La Orotava, very beautiful buildings and gardens, but glad we didn't stay there as it looks quite quiet. Then, it was down to Puerto for the game and some carnival fun. Watched the game in a very English dominated sports bar, where there were some proper arrogant w*****ers. Lost by a few points but a good game. Lined up for the Carnival parade, long wait, but worth it, great vibe and had a pizza overlooking it all afterRead more

  • Relaxed day in Puerto

    February 11, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Wandered to check on our bus stop for transfer tomorrow , then carried onto the Playa de Jardin on the west side of town. Lots of sporty stuff going on at the beach. Walked back into town and ended up having a nice little tapas in the Lido restaurant overlooking the cesar manrique lido. Walked back up and packed, then went to the local German cafe bar for some food and shots.Read more

  • Last leg, over to the west

    February 12, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

A coffee before we catch the dreaded 325 bus over the mountains to los gigantes. In fact, it was a nice journey, with a few hairpins on the way up (no photos as we had to sit on the wrong side of the bus, so Helen didn't cry 😉), but not too bad on the way down. After a chill, we walked over to Puerto santiago and found our lovely apartment. Bleach on the worktop wrecked Helens top. Popped over to surprise Jess and Ron and did the bingo with them 🤣Read more

  • Pool day

    February 13, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 22 °C

A bit of a quiet day. Went for a walk to get a coffee in the morning, but bugger all open. Had one in Legends, then some time by the pool chilling. Ended up eating at home and having a night in watching a filmRead more

  • A not great Valentines

    February 14, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Had a coffee with Ron and Jess, then some pool time. Wandered up the hill to find the supermarket, it was a bit breezy. Had some pre-drinks and music in the apartment, then up to Ceilo del mar for our meal. Nice setting, but the food was terrible - Grandma's dishwater soup with unopened mussel, a seaweedy rubbish scallop, and some overcooked prawns. Complaints fell on deaf ears, as any restaurant with a view and seafood assumes it's great. Home early for TV and shop bought pizza!Read more

  • Fantastic wildlife trip

    February 15, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Walked the coast to los gigantes to get to the boat. 1 hour into the trip it all happened and the dolphins 🐬 appeared! 10 minutes of them swimming with us, then off to find pilot whales 🐋. Fantastic, such slow movers, including a calf. Over to Masca Bay and the mazing cliffs, for a swim and food. In the evening went to legends for some eye popping sights 🫣 and an Indian on the way home. Great day to make up for yesterdayRead more

  • Costa Adeje

    February 16, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

A bit of pool time, then we got the bus over to Costa Adeje. Took about an hour with the traffic. Very cheap bars and restaurants - 1.50 euro for a beer. Walked the front and stopped on the way back for some yukky wine, then got the bus home. Supposed to have Jess and Ron over to ours, Helen went to get them, but they'd forgotten or felt obliged to do their all inclusive thingRead more

  • Pool day and partying

    February 17, 2024 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

A little stroll, then some pool time. Headed over to Los Gigantes for the evening, aiming for live music at Highland Paddy's. Looked a bit dead there, so went to Richardsons bar instead. Met a Scottish couple who lived there and are travelling Europe in a van in the summer. Ended up as a good night with plenty of dancing and a walk home singing the 'los gigantes' song 🎵Read more

  • Jess and Ron party

    February 18, 2024 in Spain ⋅ 🌙 21 °C

Had a coffee with the lizard 🦎 on the front. Later, we hooked up with Jess and Ron, who were loitering outside our apartment. Much gin consumed by the ladies, but we managed (Mark and Ron ) to shuffle them off for a rest. Had a little dance at the Blarney stone to Helens' favourite tune - who the f**k is Alice!!??Read more

  • Last day

    February 19, 2024 in Wales ⋅ ⛅ 10 °C

Had coffee and breakfast on the front. Saw Mam and Ron on the way back, then headed off on the coastal walk to los gigantes. Lots of beaches closed, we think because of high tide sea conditions. Didn't stop a bunch of crazy lads from climbing a dockside crane to jump and dive 100 feet or so into the sea. Discovered the Los gigantes beach, Jess and Ron appeared (suprise suprise) and we saw a gross enhanced arse on this woman 🙈 then walked home via a final Seaview wine. Popped to see Ron and Jess to say goodbye, then to bed ready for an early start.Read more
