    Hello Dublin and Trinity College

    Mir si imene rägnerische Dublin ahcho und Priorität isch natürlich dr Schwiz-Italie Match gse, wo mir imene Irish Pub "The Bleeding Horse" si go luege🐎 S'Pub isch sehr alt und verschachtlet gse und mir hei eusi Ferie mitme Guinness und me Sieg chönne starte!🍺🇨🇭 Am nöchste Tag heimmer fein z'mörgelet und gmüetlich z'Fuess d'Stadt erkundet👫🏽 Dr Räst vom Nomitag hei mir denn am Trinity College verbrocht, wo mir e Füehrig becho hei und e Usstellig vo dr alte Bibliothek si go aluege, wo grad im Momänt restauriert wird 📚Lut eusem Tourfüehrer düe jedes Johr die d'Studentinne vor dr Statue vom George Salmon posiere, will de immer gseit hed das Fraue "nur über sini Leiche" an dr Trinity dörfe studiere👩🏽‍🏫

    We arrived in a rainy Dublin and our first priority was watching the Switzerland - Italy game of the Euro 2024. We watched it in a nice Irish pub called "The Bleeding Horse" 🐎 The pub was pretty and old and we could start our vacation with a Guinness and a win!🍺🇨🇭 The next day we had a cozy breakfast and explored the city by foot👫🏽 The rest of the day we spent at Trinity College where we had a tour on campus and visited an exhibition of the old library, which is currently being restored📚 Our guide told us that all the female students pose in front of the statue of George Salmon because he always said that women could only study at Trinity over his dead body👩🏽‍🏫    Leggi altro

    Dublin city and Botanic Gardens

    Die reschtlichi Zit in Dublin hen mir mit Sightseeing vo dr Stadt selber und eme Usflug in die botanische Gärte verbrocht. Vor allem d Kathedralene ⛪ hens m Dennis notürlich ado, und im botanisch Garte 🏞️ isch denn d Vera im siebte Himmel gsi.
    Mitm Bier hen mir uns zrugghalte, weils am nächste Daag denn los goht mitm unserem Roadtrip und mir mien luege, dass mir au uf dr linke Site bliebe 😅🛣️

    We spent the rest of our time in Dublin with Sightseeing of the city and a trip to the botanic gardens. Dennis was especially fond of the cathedrals ⛪, whereas Vera was in heaven in the botanic gardens 🏞️
    We had to stop ourselves with the beers because we start with our roadtrip the next day and we needed to make sure that we stay on the left side of the road 😅🛣️    Leggi altro

    Galway und Countryside

    Nach Dublin sind mir mitm Auto witr nach Galway, e härzigs Städtli an dr Westküste vo Irland. Es het e tolli Altstadt, e beidruckendi Kathedrale und e tolle Hafe und Strandgebiet 🌇🏖️🌅 Es het sogar Seehünd, wo dr Fluss e bitz ufeschwimme zum Lachs fange 🦭 S'Wätter schloht sehr schnäll um und es blost uns immer chli dr Wind umd Ohre.
    Am zweite Daag in Galway hen mir chli öbbis vom Land welle gseh und sind d Ruine vonere Klosteralag und s Dunguaire Castle go aluege 🏰

    After Dublin, we went to Galway by car, a cute town on the west coast of Ireland. It has a beautiful oldtown, a breathtaking cathedral and a nice harbour and beach area 🌇🏖️🌅 There are even seals who swimm upstream into the river to catch some salmon 🦭 The weather is changing quickly, so the wind is always an issue here.
    On the second day in Galway we wanted to see the countryside und visited the ruins of a monastery and the Dunguaire Castle 🏰    Leggi altro

    Connemara Nationalpark

    Hüt simmer mitere positive Wätterprognose und vill Motivation i Connemara Nationalpark gfahre🏞️ Mir hei in 3h mit starkem Gegewind dr Diamond Hill bestige wo mr e wunderbari Ussicht ufe Nationalpark und ufd Küste gha hei🌪️ In dr nöchi ligt au d'Kylemore Abbey, wo e Burg gse isch aber jez als Benediktinerinnekloster fungiert 🏰 Zrug nach Galway heimmer d'Skyroad gnoh, e wunderbari Küstestrecki mit höchem Tempolimit (wo unmöglich isch zum ihalte uf änge Strössli) und schöne Ussichtspünkt🚀

    Today we drove with a positive weather forcast and a lot of motivation into the Connemara Nationalpark🏞️ We climbed the summit of Diamond Hill within 3h despite the harsh winds and had the best views into the park and the coast🌪️ We also visited Kylemore Abbey, which used to be a castle and is now a monastery for a Benedictine order of nuns🏰 We headed back to Galway via the Skyroad, a wonderful coastal road with high speed limits (that are impossible to achieve on these very narrow roads) and beautiful view points🚀    Leggi altro

    Hüt heimmer eus vo Galway verabschidet und si nach Doolin gfahre zum dört ufd Fähri für ufd Aran Islands z'fahre🏝️ Nach e paar Chips an Bord zum dr Mage beruhige 🤢 simmer uf dr chlinste vo de drei Insle ahcho - Inis Oirr (Inisheer usgsproche). Dört hed d'Wulchedecki ufgrisse und d'Sunne hed eus gwärmt (die heimmer scho ufgäh)!🌞 Mir si umegspaziert, si eh schöne Lüchtturm go aluege, Müscheli gsammlet, mit e paar Chüehli gredet und zum Schluss no e Cider trunke bevor mr mit dr Fähri wider zrug as Festland tuckeret si⛴️

    Today we said good bye to Galway and headed to Doolin where we took the ferry to go to the Aran Islands🏝️ After eating a pack of chips to calm the stomach 🤢 we arrived at the smallest of the three islands - Inis Oirr (pronounced Inisheer). The clouds opened up and we were warmed by the sun (we already gave up on her)!🌞 We strolled around, looked at a pretty light house, collected sea shells, talked with some cows and drank a cider at the end before we headed back to the mainland⛴️    Leggi altro

    Cliffs of Moher

    Nach de Aran Islands sind mir witr zu de Cliffs of Moher, wo ganz in dr Nöchi sind 🌊⛰️ Sie sind bis zu 214m hoch und es läbe um die 30'000 Vögel vo 30 Arte dört. Mir hen unseri Zit drmit verbrocht, de Cliffs entlangzlaufe, Föteli zmache und mitm Fernglas Vögel zbeobachte 🕊️🦆🪿🐧 (S Pinguin-Emoji isch vellicht übrtriebe, abr es het effektiv Vögel ka, wo sehr nach Pinguin usgseh hen (Guillemot)). Mir hen au sehr Glück ka mitm Wättr, es het no recht ufdoh 🤩

    After the Aran Islands we went to the Cliffs of Moher nearby 🌊⛰️ They are up to 214m high and around 30'000 birds from 30 species live there. We spent our time walking along the Cliffs, making photos and watching birds with our binoculars 🕊️🦆🪿🐧 (the penguin-emoji is maybe a bit over the top, but there is in fact a bird which looks very like a penguin (Guillemot)).     Ring of Kerry

    Nachere Übernachtig in Limerick sind mir Nöchi Milltown in unseres mega schöne Zimmer züglet, wit ab vo dr Zivilisation 🏡 Mir hen do dr Ring of Kerry gmacht, e Strooss, wo um die grossi Landusbuchtig vom County Kerry goht. Uf Empfehlig vo unserer Gastgeberin sind mir vom Ring of Kerry drab und no uf Valentia Island mit dr Autofähri 🛳️🚗
    Mir hei e paar wanderige gmacht, eine zumene Lüchtturm, ufe Hügel am Meer und zumene alte Klosterfriedhof 🏞️ Weils endlich schön worde isch, hen mir echts Summerfeeling dörfe ha!
    Dr daag hen mir bi Pizza am Meer lo usklinge und hen uf dr Heimfahrt no e tolle Sunneuntrgang direkt Mockross Lake dörfe erläbe 🌅

    After a night in Limerick we moved to our beautiful stay near Milltown, far away from any civilization 🏡 Here we did the Ring of Kerry, a street around the peninsula of County Kerry. Upon the recommendation of our host we left the Ring of Kerry and went to Valentia Island by car ferry 🛳️🚗
    We did several hikes, one to a lighthouse, one on a hill next to the sea and one to the ruins of monastery 🏞️ Because the weather was finally nice, we had a great summer feeling!
    We finished our day with pizza at the beach and saw a beautiful sunset at a lake on our way home 🌅    Leggi altro

    Dingle and Road to Cobh

    Uf unserer Reis in Süde nach Cobh hen mir e kleine Umweg über Dingle gmacht. Das isch e Städtli ufere witere Landusbuchtig direkt an dr Küste 🏙️ Vo dört us hen mir d Passstrooss chönne neh (nid z vergliche mit dr Schwiz, eher dr Strooss übere Hügel 😅) und sind no in Glanteenassig Forest Park zum um Lough Caum ume zlaufe 🕳️🚶 Das isch e See, wo ziemlich dunkel isch durchs viele Iise im Bode/Wasser. Nach dem Usflug sind mir denn witr ine rägnerischs Cobh.

    On our journey southbound to Cobh we did a little detour via Dingle. That's a small town on the Dingle peninsula and directly by the sea 🏙️
    From there we took the street over the pass (not to compare with Switzerland, more like a street over a hill 😅) and went to Glanteenassig Forest Park to walk around Lough Caum 🕳️🚶 The lake is quite dark because of the iron in the ground/water.     Cobh and Huntington Castle

    In Cobh heimmers gnosse fein z'ässe, Bier trinke, läse in eusem härzige B&B und eifach chli si! Was mir nid gwüsst hei, isch das Cobh mol Queenstown gheisse hed und dr letzt Alege-Ort vo dr Titanic gse isch bevor si sich ufe Wäg nach Amerika gmacht hed🚢 Es hed e trurigi, aber au spannendi Usstellig gha im alte White Star Line Gebäude wo me ganz vill au über die irische Opfer hed chönne läse. Ufem Wäg i eusi nöchsti Unterkunft si mir spontan no zum 400 johr alte Huntington Schloss🏰 Mir hei e Füehrig becho und dr Pfau hed sich au vo dr Beste site zeigt🦚 Zum Schluss hei mir au no am Brownshill Dolmen ghalte (e alts Grab wo dr igang mit grosse Stei markiert isch, wo dr grösst 150 Tonne wiegt)⛰️

    In Cobh we had delicious food, drank beer, and had time to read in our precious little B&B. What we didn't know was that Cobh was once called Queenstown and was the last harbor of the Titanic before the started her journey to New York🚢 There was a sad but also interesting exhibition in the old White Star Line buildings and we learned a lot about especially the irish victims. On the way to our next destination, we visited the 400 year old Huntignton Castle! We had a tour around the estate and the peacock also showed us his best side🦚 Last but not least we stopped at the Brownshill Dolmen (an ancient burial site which is marked by big bolders, the haviest weighing around 150 tons)⛰️    Leggi altro

    Guinness, Teeling and Goodbye

    Bi unserer Rückkehr in Dublin sind mir ind Guinness Brewery und ind Teeling Distillery 🍺🥃 Beidi hen sehr beidruckendi Fiehrige, Guinness isch self-guided, abr sehr imposant und d Teeling het e sehr e luschtige Tourguide gha. D'Teeling Distillery isch au erst 2015 (wider)eröffnet worde, die ersti Destillerie in Dublin in über 125 Joor! ⚗️ Usm allererste Fass hen sie nur ei einzigi Fläsche hergstellt, die isch für über € 10'000 versteigeret worde 💶💶💶
    Direkt nach dere coole Tour sind mir mit chi Whisky im Maage Richtig Flughafe für unseri Heimreis 🇮🇪🛫

    When we returned to Dublin and visited the Guinness Brewery and the Teeling Distillery 🍺🥃 Both of them have a very interesting tour, the Guinness one is self-guided, but very imposing and the Teeling one had a very funny tour guide. The Teeling Distillery opened just in 2015 and was the first newly (re)opened distillery in Dublin in over 125 years! ⚗️ Of the very first barrel they produced just one bottle which sold in an auction for around € 10'000 💶💶💶
    Right after this cool tour we headed to the airport for our journey home with a bit of whisky in our belly 🇮🇪🛫    Leggi altro
