Bridgetown, Barbados

After sailing out of the Amazon, we headed north towards Barbados, a journey of three days. The weather was quite windy, force 7, but the ship was not travelling fast so it was quite comfortable. En route, we slowly sailed by Devil’s Island off the coast of French Guyana. This is one of a small group of three islands close together and formed a French penal colony on which criminals from France were imprisoned. A film was made called ‘Papillon’ which related the story of one prisoner who escaped. This morning we arrived in Bridgetown, Barbados to warm sunny weather.
