• Scapa beach

    September 4, 2025 in Scotland ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

We started off by visiting Scapa beach, no waves today. A black guillemot possibly with avian flu was resting on the water's edge.
It was then off to see Maeshowe chambered cain. This was built 5,000 years ago . The entrance is positioned so the winter solstice sun enters the cain. The doors low so you show respect. The cain was used by the village for births, sending your spirit on its way, warmth and food storage in winter.
Then a short drive to Yesenby the most wrsterly point on Mainland. Theres nothing between here and Canada.
