    Adventure to Uluru & Perth

    Not a good start. Flight scheduled for 6.35 this morning Akld to Sydney then Uluru. Flight delayed, on tarmac for 4 bloody hours so missed my flight to Uluru. Long story but have to stay night in Sydney at Qantas expense as only one flight a day to Uluru. So missed out on the Festival of Lights and the walk around the rock at dawn tomorrow. So angry with Qantas because they mucked me around for three hours upon arrival.
    Jeanette enjoying herself in Uluru on her own (and so she should) and me not happy. A new day tomorrow, it can only get better🥴🥴    Les mer

    Uluru

    Wow, made it and what a place. Got off bus at Hotel to be greeted by ‘about bloody time ‘ by Jeanette. Great to see her again.
    Walked to the town square which is part of the Ayers Rock Resort, we are at Sails in the Desert all part of the resort. We have just arrived home from ‘Sounds of Silence’ a dinner out in the desert. Wonderful views of the ‘Rock’ and a wonderful dinner. Off to Kings Canyon tomorrow for two nights.Les mer

    Kings Canyon

    Flew to Kings Canyon on an 8 seater plane with 2 others (father and son) 35 mins flying time into the land of no internet.😪😪
    Red dirt airstrip on Kings Station, WOW. Then went on an adventure to listen to the local indigenous Karrke Aborigines which was interesting, then came the best part, eating a Witchity Grub. I kid you not, it was delicious and the 4 of us went back for seconds.Les mer

    Rim Walk - Kings Canyon

    The four of us (same extra 2 as yesterday) went wit a female guide to walk the canyon rim, WOW again. Great with just 5 of us. The 500 steps to begin with were a killer but I made it. 🤪🤪🧗🏿‍♀️🧗🏿‍♀️Breathtaking views of Watarrka National Park. Photo of Jeanette and I in ‘Priscilla’s crack’ from the movie Priscilla Queen of the Desert which was filmed here.We walked into the ‘Garden of Eden’, steep but worth doing. Great guide and great company. 4 hours later we were knackered but on a high from a great day.

    Kata Tjuta Domes

    Trip into Kata Tjuta National Park . Walked into the Walpa Gorge listening to our informative and passionate guide explain the 36 domes and the cultural significance as a sacred Aboriginal men’s ceremonial site. Amazing rock formation. Not far away from Uluru. Another good walk.Les mer

    Back to Perth

    Back in the land of the internet. Left Uluru for Perth via Alice Springs, good flight and now at Jeanette’s until tomorrow when we leave for our trip north of Perth. Many loads of washing now catching up on news.

    Perth to Dongara

    2. september 2019, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

    Left early yesterday for the 350km trip to Dongara mostly along the coast stopping at Lancelin for a dune buggy hoon around the miles of sand dunes. Guess who got stuck going up a hill🤪🤪🤪So Jeanette had to push me out🤣🤣🤣great fun, felt like a teenager again.
    Then to The Pinnacles, a strange sometimes eerie feeling with the rock formations in the sand.
    Now at the Seaspray Beach Holiday Park overlooking the ocean in a lovely two bdrm villa. The shower head is something else but at least there is plenty of hot water.    Les mer

    Dongara

    Started off yesterday walking out on the beach and boardwalk and then walked into town to do the 4 km Dongara Heritage Walk taking in 28 heritage sites some of which are now private homes. We stopped at the local pub, built in 1867, for lunch, so good we had to go back for dinner which was great. Lovely accommodation and a great beach.Les mer

    Wildflowers

    4. september 2019, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

    Yesterday we headed inland and climbed to the lookout on Mingenew Hill to take in the amazing views of the countryside, mostly growing wheat and canola before driving to the Coalseam Conservation Park to see the wildflowers, we stopped at several lookouts on the Irwin River before doing a loop walk of 3.2kms on the ridge.
    Back late afternoon to join in Happy Hour with other travellers and management on the beach to watch the sunset. Fire roaring, lots of laughs (just like during the day) drinks and nibbles, ending the night with Pizza. Another great day.🤣🤣🤪🤪    Les mer

    Dongara to Kalbarri

    Sad to leave our villa this morning but WOW our accommodation tonight is something else. Called into Geraldton, a rather large but beautiful town. Tauranga could take some waterfront lessons!!! Visited the small beach resort of Horrocks, so nice then lunch by the water at Port Gregory. Pink Lakes came next, incredible, photos don’t do it justice. Then on to Lucky Beach, like a DOC reserve, eco friendly but not the roads of sand and dirt🥴🥴Saw a ‘blue tongued lizard on the road🦎. Arrived at our accommodation in Kalbarri and again WOW, across the road from the beach and sheer luxury. Even a complimentary bottle of wine
    which we are enjoying now.    Les mer

    Forgot to say, we nearly had Emu burgers yesterday. Driving out of the park two Emus were running along side of us and were about to cross the road when a car passed us so they took off down the bank, too fast for us to take photos. Then we saw an Echidna crossing the road, could have had nibbles!!🤣🤣Les mer

    Because we couldn’t have Emu burgers last night we went to the local pub, fish & prawns great, only thing was I had to endure Aussie Rules semi final, what a stupid game!!! And to add ‘insult to injury’ Jeanette tried to kill me today, she took me to the Kalbarri National Park to show me Nature’s Window which was stunning, overlooking the Murchison River. I then had to do a 3.8Km walk down to the river for lunch over rocks, large boulders, ladders and narrow ravines, man are my legs like jelly and she just tells me we are doing a 9km walk tomorrow.
    Whew!!
    Before we left this morning we went across to the beach were the pelicans get fed, locals have been doing this for 40 years. We were lucky today because apart from the pelicans we saw a kangaroo (yawn yawn) then a Thorny Devil, a weird looking reptile. When we arrived home for a well deserved wine we had a long tailed lizard on our deck.
    Steak on the barbie and then I had to endure the other semi Aussie Rules, even worse than last night. Hopefully I survive tomorrow to write another blog.!!!!    Les mer

    Kalbarri National Park

    7. september 2019, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

    Up early this morning and out to the park for what I thought was a 7.2km walk. I was right J was trying to kill me, it was a 9km walk. Only one word ‘stunning’. We were early birds, no one else there when we set off, only about 10,000 flies!!! Emus & Kangaroos on the way to the park. We did the Loop Trail, Class 4 and it lived up to its class, challenging at times and hot towards the end but well worth it. Some difficult terrain.
    Took us 4 hours but we stopped for something to eat and drink and of course I had to stop at times. Phew, we did it.
    On the way home we saw a Bungarra, a rather large lizard, about 1.5 - 1.8 metres. So fascinating and huge. Home for lunch and rest then drove out to the Natural Bridge on the coast and the Blue Holes, then I was too knackered to do anything else.    Les mer

    Kalbarri to Denham

    Left our wonderful accommodation yesterday morning for the nearly 380km trip to Denham. Stopped for fuel and lunch at Billabong. Weird to say the least, out in the middle of nowhere two gas stations/ roadhouse next to one another, one with fuel 5 cents dearer than the other, a ‘no brainer’. Best thing was a group of motorcyclists, all women, sat and had lunch in among them, what a hoot. A great bunch of ladies🥴🥴🥴having a long weekend break.
    Then on to see the Stromatolites, very interesting going back about 3000 years. Called in to Shell beach, not one grain of sand, all very small shells. Funny that.
    Then to Denham, accommodation across the road from the beach.    Les mer
