  • France part deux

    21 сентября 2021 г., Франция ⋅ 🌙 15 °C

We arrived, a little tired from our ferry to Cherbourg, and took the short 40min drive from the terminal to a most spectacular spot.

Apparently used for ball-trap / clay pigeon shooting, though now just many route hikers passing, a most wonderful spot to pull Frank up, with views out to sea, to jersey island, France and sometimes England perhaps…. ?

We sit in the sun sipping a coffee and some apple tart from the Glencullen kitchen, taking in the scenery. Blue seas sparkle and twirl and twist, below our cliff they crash onto the stones beaches. There’s still heat in that sun!

Later we’re treated to orange sunsets, changing colours and shapes on the clouds. Burning skies. Reds so rich contrast on the navy sky, as fabrics these could make quite a shall…

It’s quiet. Serene. Like parking up on the edge of the world! By morning we wake to misty sun rises and head off in search of a croissant!

  • Mont Saint Michel

    22 сентября 2021 г., Франция ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

The UNESCO heritage famous Mont-Saint-Michel commune and abbey perched on a rocky isle on hugely tidal sandbanks! Epic to see this while driving! We pulled over for a closer look! Some amazing architecture that stands tall and strong on huge sandbanks, and becomes an impenetrable fortress in full tide, a perfect defence. A place of worship. A prison at one point in history too.

Also a use of inspiration for many movies and sets…one can see why!

  • Oysters in cancale!

    22 сентября 2021 г., Франция ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

Did you ever see a bay at low tide, with fields of oyster beds being harvested by tractors and a huge working force? We had no idea this is how they grew oysters. They then drive by on the streets of Cancale delivering their harvest to the various shops, restaurants, factories. People walk by with blue bags filled with their dozen or so fresh oysters. Heaven!

As the autumn sets in, so begins the busy season for oyster harvesting. They say, one should only ever eat oysters in months with an “r” in them…. And so we of course obliged and got ourselves downtown to Cancale, oyster Mecca, and the atelier de l’huitre for a degustation of the slimy slurpy deliciousness…..

We tried numbers 2 & 3 of the farmed fellas (I mean they are literally farmed there, before our eyes), slurped those right down with a bitta pain and burre between plates….then we had to try number 3 wild and number 2 flat to get the full scope of oysters..we didn’t know there were so many types! Though glad we didn’t go for the human hand sized number 0…as we saw some couple needing a fork and an knife to make edible sizes from this huge mofo!

Overall, our favourites lay between wild 3 and farmed 3! Oh to have more would be a treat, for another day!

We took a stroll down to the pier and watched as they worked the farms, and others ate their oysters from the market stalls! Fascinating.

As the autumn equinox sets in, equal length day and night, we finished our day (at 7pm, before real dinner time) with a galette (also famous of Breton) and walked back to our handy city Aire (park place for campers) amongst the trees a mere 10mins stroll from town.

    Happy out!

  • Innsbruck

    18 октября 2021 г., Австрия ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

A shortened trip to Innsbruck as the autumn season slowly changes to winter with the tops of the Tirolean mountains sprinkled white with snow. Down on the river level however it’s the perfect time to see the larch trees show off their colourful set of leaves.
Unfortunately we got sick so cut our adventure short and returned to Switzerland to recoup!
Still, the road up and over the pass was worth it alone for the beauty.
