    Strahan and Macquarie Harbor

    May 26, 2018 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 5 °C

Strahan (pronounced more like "Strawn" here) is the principle town on the west coast of Tasmania. Macquarie Harbor is a large waterway with a very narrow and dangerous access to the Southern Ocean. Most of these pics are of the harbor. There are several lighthouses to guide ships in from the days before GPS. The 2nd shows Hells' Gap, the entrance to Macquarie Harbor. the 4th picture is of a lighthouse outside of Hell's Gate. We were there on a rare calm day so that the cruise boat could go beyond the bar into the Southern Ocean. The last pic is of a fish farming operation in the bay. They raise Atlantic Salmon and rainbow trout/steelhead.Read more
