    La Veinteyuno, León

    April 1, 2019 in Nicaragua ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

Former prison, now a museum. Built in 1921, hence the name (veinteyuno is 21 in Spanish). This is the prison where the Somosa regime tortured suspected revolutionaries, ie, Sandinistas.
The first pic is the wall of the cell block, showing some of what went on. The second shows the basin that were filled with water so prisoners hung head down from the tree could be dunked. The remaining pictures are various cells. The have line drawings of the prisoners and culturally significant displays.Read more
