Caravansarai

A caravansarai is where caravans stopped for overnight accommodation. This one at Tash Rabat is restored. This is one of the largest remaining in Kyrgyzstan, and is an example of the roofed type. Unroofed ones are more typically urban, we were told.
The 1st pic is the building in the morning sun. 2nd is the entry tunnel taken from just inside the gate in the first picture. Next is the central room under the dome. 4th is a sleeping chamber with the raised area on one side for side-by-side bedrolls. 5th looks through a series of interconnected chambers.
