    Old Jakarta

    Batavia is the Dutch name for Jakarta during their colonial period. The former Dutch area is very different from the surrounding older areas, with European style buildings throughout. The 1st two pictures look across the square at the governor's offices, and at the old supreme court building, both now museums. 3rd is another colonial building, either a bank or insurance building from that period, also a museum now. 4th is a detail of the symbol or logo of Dutch Batavia. The last 2 are of the old harbor still used by local Indonesian traders. This is where the Dutch first set foot here.Read more
