    Pangandaran

    February 27, 2020 in Indonesia ⋅ ☁️ 31 °C

Small town on the south coast of Java. If you look at the map, you can see that the town is on an isthmus between the mainland and a large rock formation, probably coral from when seas were higher. This is a favorite getaway from Jakarta.
Lots of local fishing and other small businesses. (See other posts).
The 1st picture is of the sculpture at the town entrance suggesting a local sport opportunity. 2nd is a look at the beach on one side of the isthmus. 3rd is some remains from the most recent tsunami to hit the town. 4th is a nearby village, sort of a suburb of Pagandaran. The last two are in the national park that is on the high group at the end of the isthmus. The porcupine is in a cave, and the Java deer is a type of barking deer. Also seen but not show are flying squirrels and flying foxes.
