    A day in Sydney

    February 1, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

As you probably know, Auckland has been suffering through intense storms and flooding, including the airport under water. As I was supposed to fly when the Auckland airport was closed, I got a couple bonus days in Queenstown which isn't a bad place to get stuck.
So, in order to leave New Zealand without flying through Auckland, I chose to fly to Sydney. By spending a day here, I can get on track.
This is my 2nd visit to Sydney. Some of these pictures repeat other posts, such as the 1st 2: the Harbor Bridge and the Opera House. Both are iconic images of this city, and I imagine a set of pictures of Sydney just must include these.
The 3rd picture is an alley with lots of bird cages hanging over the street. They have speakers playing bird calls of species that lived here but cannot survive in the urban environment. In fact, their calls are timed to when each species is most active.
The 4th picture in the WW 1 ANZAC cenotaph with the General Post Office building behind.
The next 2 picture are buildings dating to Governor Maquarie: the 1st hospital and the Hyde Park barracks, respectively. The barracks are named for the park in the 7th picture which is next door.
The 8th picture is along Martin Place, at the heart of Sydney's financial district.
The 9th picture is in the QVB it Queen Victoria Building. This was originally built on the site of an old market, but over time deteriorated. It was purchased and redeveloped in the upscale retail space it is today.
