    4 Haziran 2016, İrlanda ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

This was another surprise, we didn't do a lot of exploring since we were running late on time. Apparently there is an acient tomb that was discovered here ?? A.D. It is of great historical importance but the area is rather desolate.Okumaya devam et

  • Pint in Kilfenora

    4 Haziran 2016, İrlanda ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Stopped for a pint and possibly find a place to stay. It got a little sketchy since it was a bank holiday weekend and we even had the friendly bartender owner helping us. We did find a place after calling around but needed to drive a town over. No pictures to document this stop, so here are some others.Okumaya devam et

  • Crosswinds B&B

    4 Haziran 2016, İrlanda ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

Made it! It is a cramped little room in a house in the country. Our first detached bathroom but for our use only. The area is very pretty with fields and forests, farms and such. There is a gaudy "castle" hotel up the street. Why someone would build a hotel there, I don't know. Joyce made friends with the resident donkey and we had a chance to visit the chickens. JJ the dog was around in the morning for a belly rub but Joyce missed meeting him. Apparently he likes to keep an eye and nose out for the neighbor cat that also like to snack from the small front yard fish pond.Okumaya devam et

  • Burren Brewery

    4 Haziran 2016, İrlanda ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Shot into town from our B&B for a pint and bite to eat. I had some great smoked salmon and pasta and Joyce had bacon and cabbage at the Townhouse pub. Next door is the Burren Brewery where I met the brewer, Peter. He was one to talk for quite awhile and I wasn't sure I would make it back to the pub before my food got cold. Almost forgot to snap some photos, so we did our best with a "drive by".Okumaya devam et

  • Cliffs of Mohr

    5 Haziran 2016, İrlanda ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Well, we finally made it to the cliffs. I was a little anxious about taking the ferry ride as it seems a lot of people were getting on the boat. It was probably one of Jon's highlights however as he got to talk with some fishermen and was showing me where the traps were and how you knew which side of them to approach from to hook them. Heading out to the cliffs we had a personal escort out of the pier. Once to the cliffs they were amazing! So glad we did do the ferry ride to see them. They are home to the largest sea bird colony. Over 3000 birds nest there each year....thus their lovely white coloring. The area has been a no fly zone since the 1970's (sorry Chris) to protect the birds. Once we got back to shore we headed towards Kilkearny.Okumaya devam et

  • Pint at Inagh

    5 Haziran 2016, İrlanda ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Our usual lunch and a pint. Jon was getting scorched by the sun on his right arm. The weather has been simply amazing. We've not had any rain since leaving Dublin. You know it's been unusually dry when the local pub owner says "we were hoping for a spot of rain today" Jon also got eaten on by the Midges at our B&B last night. Not a bite on me.Okumaya devam et

  • River Island Hotel

    5 Haziran 2016, İrlanda ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

Found a place to rest our weary head for the night. We probably did the most driving today than we have all trip. We happened upon this gem of a hotel as is usual for our trip. We seem to keep winding up at the right places at the right time. Someone is looking out for us. We met up with a local gathering of card players here. Got to talk to a couple of different locals and learned a few things on Ireland history. Tomorrow off to do the Ring of Kerry.Okumaya devam et

  • The Anchor for Lunch, and a pint.

    6 Haziran 2016, İrlanda ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Well, we are half way around the Ring of Kerry. Stopped for lunch at a place called The Anchor. They made us earn our food and drink as we couldn't figure out how to get into the place. It is also a Banking Holiday Monday, so everything is closed. It's been sketchy finding places open for food and drink. In one town we happened upon a funeral with the horse drawn see through carriage with the coffin insdie. That was a little freaky. Who ever it was, they must have been well known as getting through that part of town was crazy with all the people.Okumaya devam et

  • Ring of Kerry

    6 Haziran 2016, İrlanda ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Based on our past experience with the coastal region up north, the Ring of Kerry was a definate surprise. But a welcomed one. Nothing of huge significance here. There were some lakes and forts but we never found them. After going off on a couple of the roads they were supposedly on and not finding them, we stopped looking. The roads were barely wide enough for us and we happened upon many others probably in search for the mysterious land marks as well. It's probably the locals way of losing tourists. • Ballyvourney, Mills Inn

    6 Haziran 2016, İrlanda ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

It was time yet again to start looking for a place to stay. We stopped at the Mills Inn for dinner and found there is a local craft brewery here. We tasted 5 they had on tap and they were all very good. We plan to make a stop there on our way out of town tomorrow. We then asked the bartender if he knew of any good places to stay in town, he laughted and said "here". I thought he was joking as in staying and drinking all night, but they did in fact have rooms. Once again we fell into a place. It was later determined that they had no water. Becuase of the dry spell we've been having, they had to switch the water supply and it hadn't filled up. However, they had a room in the "old lodge" and could guarantee water by morning so we took it. Jon later found out that the lodge was the original hunting lodge for Blarney Castle. Out our bedroom window you can see part of the old tower. Very cool. On to Cork, Blarney Castle and Jameson Distillery tomorrow.Okumaya devam et

  • 9 White Deer Brewery

    7 Haziran 2016, İrlanda ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

We stopped in while they were closed and they were nice enough to give us a private tour of their brewery. We tried their brew at Mills Inn and it was great, but wanted a few souvenirs if we could get them. It was a small operation in an office type building but they seem to have a nice set up going. Their auger conveyer for the grains into the mashtun was quite interesting.Okumaya devam et

  • Blarney Castle

    7 Haziran 2016, İrlanda ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

We had to see the stone! The narrow passage and staircase along with the large amount of people led to some claustrophobia but we made it to the top! Another amazing castle. The stone structure is the only thing left of the castle, they did build a staircase to access the original stone staircase and added some hand rails, that was about it. The roof is gone, the floors are gone. There were a few rooms that we were able to explore that had stone floors, and the walls were amazingly thick. The passages under the castle were quite mysterious.Okumaya devam et

  • Carigshane House B&B

    7 Haziran 2016, İrlanda ⋅ ⛅ 19 °C

We actually made a reservation this morning for this B&B, that is a first for us! Normally we have been just winging it, with fairly good results, as we never knew for sure where we would be at any given time. Since we knew we would do Jameson in the a.m. we chose this place earlier. It ended up being a very nice place and we stayed up drinking beer and whiskey on the back patio purchased from the Supervalu in Midleton. Joyce had a chance to make friends with Toby the dog (also the WiFi password if you happen to find yourself close by).Okumaya devam et

  • Tullys Bar, Waterford

    8 Haziran 2016, İrlanda ⋅ ⛅ 17 °C

Stopped in for a pint of local brew, Metalman. Great little bar with bathrooms cleaner and nicer than most I have come accross. The hand driers even worked! The decor was very nice and as with most pubs, it was a local hang out as well. We were given directions to Geoffs for food and also to Waterford Crystal.Okumaya devam et

  • Geoffs of John Street

    8 Haziran 2016, İrlanda ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Stopped in for food and a pint. We were sent here by the bartender at Tullys Bar. The food was great, as usual, Joyce had the shepherds pie, and I had the spicy lamb burger (unfortunately the burger had feta cheese). We have yet to find bad food on this trip! The weather continues to be warm and dry, and it appears as though it will be until we leave. So much for experiencing typical Irish weather.Okumaya devam et
