    The California Coastal Trail is a 1,200-mile, route stretching along the Pacific coastline from Mexico to Oregon. The 2.7-mile San Francisco Presidio Park segment connects Baker Beach to the Golden Gate Bridge with expansive Pacific Ocean views along the way.

    There are gun emplacements along the bluffs —like Battery Chamberlin (1904), Batteries Crosby (1900), Godfrey (1895), Boutelle (1900), Cranston (1897) and Lancaster (1898), that were part of a modernization of the nation’s seacoast defenses begun in 1885 by Secretary of War William Endicott.
