As a preparation for hopefully upcoming Tour du Mont Blanc (about a year from now) we are dedicating our vacations to some training doing hikes in the mountain areas. Read more

We took the inland, Tote Road, trail first and hiked to Link 2, where we took a short break.
Even this flat trail was not without its challenges as it's completely open and the sun was beating down ...and of course there was still no reprive from the Maine Kamikazis 😒Read more

We used this cut to switch to Riverside trail which proved to be quite comfy, being much more shaded, and the views didn't hurt either 😊

    July 13, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 79 °F

As stated, it is quite an enjoyable hike.
At one point, we took another short break in one of the huts (after we had our picnic lunch - see next footprint) : quite impressive setup and again one has to marvel at what PRIVATE entity can do with a lot less money and proper planning.

BTW, this, it was the longest hike of the week clocking at just over 11 miles, which nicely translates to 17.5 km, which is your "upper-end" average on the TMB (of course it is not THAT flat there 😉)

  • Picnic lunch

    July 13, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 81 °F

Shortly after the switch, we came upon this lovely picnic area and had our lunch (which, if I haven't mentioned before, consisted of hard-boiled eggs, bananas, and apples for all hikes).
It was a much deserved break by that time 🙂Read more

  • In search of elusive Lake

    July 14, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 79 °F

Once more this was a late start, but somewhat planned.

To finish off yesterday, we were so tired after the hike (which took us a total of 5.5 hours, incl. all the breaks) that we collapsed into the bed after a welcomed (and much needed) shower and dinner, and concked out....🥱🛌😴

So today after breakfast, we did preliminary packing (yup, the fun is almost over) and then decided to take a drive to Pleasant Lake, which is the closest Lake to us.
Try as we may, we couldn't get close enough to it anywhere public parking would be available.
Almost every piece of shoreline is on some or another private property.
Finally, I just stopped on some remote road and made a fast dash skirting an edge of the meadow of one of them.
The Kamikazis where still abundant so Laurie wisely chose to remain in the safety of the car

  • The Slice

    July 14, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 81 °F

Somewhat frustrated, we made the best of it by checking out The Slice, apparently THE PLACE to go if you are local (given that it's one of only 2 eateries in town).
Laurie cooled herself with Sam Adam's Summer Ale and chose Buffalo Chicken salad.
I settled on trying "The Ronnie" - a combo of ham, cheeseburger, fried chicken, bacon, and usual veggie fixes on a bun (and noone in there knows why "Ronnie" ...reckn it meant something to someone at one point) and washed it down with Portland Pale Ale.

Besides good food this turned out to be a Blessing as the waitress told us where to go to get to the lake

  • Pleasant Lake Redux

    July 14, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 82 °F

A short 5 minutes drive put us on the grounds of Birch Point Campgrounds where we happily walked to the lake and even took a short stroll around the place before heading back to our own cabin to continue packing...Read more

  • On our way home

    July 15, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 82 °F

    Crossing GW Bridge here
All in all, it took us 12 hours with some stops to get home
Intermittent rains here and there, but for most of the day, we were lucky to escape it
