    this is a cast of a sandal of a Roman legionnaire set into the Calle Ancha in Leon. The Roman legions always started campaigns on their left foot. It is significant as Leon was a large fort built to protect gold shipments coming from Galician gold mines West of here en route to Rome. Here it marks a wall of the Roman fort.Read more
