    And we’re Off!

    May 30, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 48 °F

We’re pulling the trigger on selling our home in Seattle and are totally stressed out. Peggy announced her “semi-retirement” to the admin team yesterday. We got Covid last August when we were going to go to Twisp so had to delay to today. Peggy originally requested a trip to the East of the Cascades. I had heard of Twisp in a travelogue as one of the cities in Washington with the most interesting names. Got up at 5 am and got out the door at 7:20.Read more

  • We get the Buen Camino out of storage

    May 30, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 48 °F

Buen Camino has been sleeping since January, except for warranty work that we had done April-May. Our warranty is up June 17 and Apache camping did OK, but didn’t complete the vapor barrier work and there is no time to make them complete it. When we finally got her back and returned her to Lake Stevens, I surprised Peggy with “Let’s wash the trailer” , as we hadn’t had the energy back in January and then had to wait out the cold weather. We had come up to Lake Stevens where she is stored to de-winterize: dumping out the alcohol anti-freeze that has been protecting her water system, setting all of the valves for summer use, then flushing the system with water and then filling the water storage with chlorine solution to sterilize it and make it safe. Then, after dumping the chlorine, filling up with water.

Things to remember: 1) wash out the water heater when winterizing, 2) when putting the new filters in the water filter make sure the orientation is correct (look for the word “TOP”), 3). Take better care of the water softener. Follow the directions. Luckily when the filter stopped working, I decided not to use the softener after seeing some discharge. Then after getting home and looking up the user manual, I have not been taking good care of it!! Had to leave it at home waiting for the sanitizer powder which is needed before recharging the ion exchange resin with salt. Oh, and back washing…do it more.

Also checking systems, propane working, stove working, batteries topped with distilled water.

The only things left for the morning were loading up, reconnecting the tire pressure monitors, torquing the trailer lug nuts, and hitching up.

We were able to get up and out on the road in less than an hour. The only problem was trying to use the RV Life navigation. It kept trying to send us through Cascades NP, rather than the southern route that was longer, but that goes through Leavenworth where we could have lunch.

  • Riverbend RV park

    May 30–Jun 6, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 63 °F

Made it to Riverbend RV park after a beautiful drive through forests and miles and miles of apple orchards and along the meandering, but enormous Columbia River.

  • Town of Twisp

    May 31, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 68 °F

A lemon poppy seed muffin with butter at the famous Cinnamon Twisp bakery. We walked the down town area, about 8 blocks total. Then we went to TwispWorks, a super neat multi venue business/training facility built on the old Ranger station (enormous). Then went to Hanks Market where the very pleasant Hank has put up all of his big game trophies. Back to camp for lunch and a snooze.Read more

  • Winthrop

    June 2, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 57 °F

Discovered the town of Winthrop just a few minutes drive north of Twisp. We agreed it was like a California gold rush town, but much better preserved. Lot’s of tourist shops and a brewery for lunch. We went further up highway 20 to the “town” of Mazama. Really just a few buildings, gas station, pizzeria, and outfitters for treks into the nearby mountains.Read more

  • A long day home

    June 3, 2024 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 59 °F

We were able to break camp in good order before the rain started (at least it looked like it was going to rain) and get on the road. Windy conditions all the way and particularly gusty in the Columbia river basin. Stopped briefly in Leavenworth for a potty break, but kept on due to the weather. Moderate to heavy rain over Stevens Pass and the big drops had ice crystals. Got back home by 3:30 to find the landscapers had scalped the front lawn and the flower beds.Read more
