Considering how little the country has in general, they have kindness in abundance. As the only westerners there we were met with great humility. Continuing songkran in the outskirts of Siem Reap, we ate great food, drank and danced until I couldn't feel my feet and could not possibly be any sweatier. No communal language needed but our best charades gestures and laughter. I will eternally be grateful to Mr Bean for taking us there, the village of which I do not, and probably will never ever know the name of. Filled with beautiful people old and young, and beautiful memories.Read more

Popped into the little shop to meet a lovely man who sold some very unique pieces of jewellery. It lead me to purchase a really unusual ring made from buffalo horn. I'm usually drawn to things that are a bit unusual. Buffalo horn is only collected and used after the Buffalo has died so is not hunted for its horn unlike other animals such as rhinos. It is believed to have natural remedies through its high keratin content and therefore is considered to be a better alternative to rhino horn.Read more

I have never seen so much fish in one place in all of my 23 years, and in the height of dry season with temperatures reaching the mid-forties, well, you can just imagine the smell! Some of the fish come from Tonle Sap lake, however, sadly due to over fishing throughout all seasons in Vietnam and some horrific methods such as electric shocking the water which kills everything (not just fish), the majority are imported from Thailand. It just goes to show the knock on effect of irresponsible cultivation for potentially thousands of people from many miles away.Read more

Mr Lim went to school with the gentleman who owns this business. He popped in to his friends with us on the way back to the city. His friend explained how the mushrooms are grown in each bag and hung under the house where it is dark and cooler, and then sold for around five dollars per kilo. You could also just buy the ready-made grow bags to DIY.Read more
