The five of us woke up at 8 this morning and packed our bags. We hit the road an hour later, driving out of Dublin. After two hours, we stopped at the Barack Obama Plaza for laughs and hot drinks. Just under 3 hours later, we ended up on the Dingle Peninsula. We marveled at the beauty of Inch Beach before arriving in the village of Dingle. Here, we stopped in a pub for a quick driving break and then had some Murphy’s ice cream. The next few hours were spent on the tiniest costal roads possible with incredible views. Along the way we visited a sheep farm and took many pictures of the Atlantic. We eventually landed in Tralee, settling in at our hotel. We’re now ending the night in the pub next door, watching the rugby World Cup.Read more

Everyone woke up by half 7 this morning to prepare for the half marathon. Ryan and David had a quick breakfast, then we all walked to the start line in town. Once the race commenced, Mom, Anna, and I had a late breakfast of our own. Around 10:30 we headed to the finish, staying for a half hour to see both Dad and David. They both ran incredibly well and we couldn’t be prouder of them. At the hotel, we cleaned up and packed our bags for the road. After a simple lunch at a nearby cafe, we started our journey back across the isle. The trip was long and boring but 4 hours later, we made it to Dublin. We plopped our bags at home and went to a close pub for dinner and drinks. The night was loud but very fun and the music was great!Read more

David and Anna left for the airport bright and early this morning to catch their flight. A sleepy goodbye later, I went back to bed for a while longer before Mom dragged me up for the day. The morning went by pretty quickly, everyone completing their respective work. Once Mom and I both showered, we picked up sandwiches for lunch at a nearby restaurant. After lunch, the afternoon passed with plenty of rain. Mom had me film a video for her students back home of her dancing to Thriller, which is why it is today’s song. We had pasta for dinner, marveling at how early darkness came — around 5 o’clock. Our late evening was spent chatting and watching Loki.

Mom went for a walk this morning and got us donuts for breakfast! The two of us were picked up by a friend around 9:20, and ended up 20 minutes out of the city on a lovely hiking trail. At the top of the hill, we had a panoramic view of Dublin and Wicklow, along with an incredibly old stone house that we explored. After climbing down, we stopped at a cafe for a snack before saying farewell. Mom and I took the bus home and chilled for a half hour, then moved to the library to work. By 4:10 we left for home, anticipating a night of many trick-or-treaters. However, we only had a half dozen people knock on our door. Once we finished playing Uno and had our pizza, we called it a night.Read more

Galway Bay - The Irish Tenors

This morning, we packed for the next few days before our driver, Kevin, picked us up at 11. The following hours were spent driving across the country (again) with a stop about halfway to Galway. We arrived in Galway city earlier than our flat was ready, so we killed some time at the aquarium. After an hour or so, Kevin dropped us off at our Airbnb. We didn’t spend very long sitting around, instead we headed for the bookstore and a pub for dinner. One lovely meal later, we ended up in another pub for music. By the time we got home, we were pretty tired and went to bed early.Read more

We had a nice breakfast of pastry before meeting Kevin outside of his hotel. He took us to the Cliffs of Moher where we spent the next 3 hours exploring and walking around. The landscape was gorgeous and felt almost intimate in its beauty. Afterwards, we had lunch at the cafe and checked out the Cliffs exhibit. We left for the Wild Atlantic Way and stopped at an incredible beach. On the ride home we passed the Burren, rolling hills over the sea. Eventually we returned to Galway and parted ways with Kevin. Once we dried off, we had Italian at the Milano restaurant nearby. Before going home, Mom bought mittens and socks while Dad and I each picked a sweater. Finally, we headed home and retired for the night.Read more

We met Kevin around 10 o’clock this morning, starting off to Connemara National Park. Along the route we stopped for photos and enjoyed the immaculate views. Eventually, we reached Kylemore Abbey and estate which we spent hours exploring. By 3, we’d eaten lunch and seen everything we possibly could, so we hopped back on the road. En route to Galway, we saw a few villages and the gorgeous fjord! Once the three of us were back in the city, Mom and Dad went out for drinks while I chilled at home. Afterwards, we had dinner across the street and then retired for the night.Read more

The three of us were up and out of our flat by 8:15 this morning, meeting Kevin after coffee. Our first stop was at a lovely estate near Sligo, where we explored the grounds. We had a nice walk then got back on the road to the Arigna Mining Experience. The tour was in the original coal mines and incredibly interesting, especially since our guide had worked in the mines himself. Our last stop before getting back to Dublin was in Carrick-On-Shannon, a beautiful town where we spent our afternoon. We hit the bakery, bookstore + park, then left for Dublin. 2.5 hours later, we made it home! Our evening was very calm, we had pasta and watched an episode of Loki.Read more

We all slept in a bit this morning, exhausted from constantly traveling over the past few days. After an easy morning, Mom and I went to Tesco for this week’s groceries. Our afternoon was pretty chill and we all exercised outside to enjoy the nice weather. Dad went running at the same time Mom went for a walk, and I went on my own walk a half hour later. We decided to create a photo collage of the neighborhood (seen in this post), which gave me a nice excuse to explore the area. We were spoiled today as it was sunny and breezy, a lovely break from the cloudy skies. Our dinner consisted of a sausage, carrot, and potato bake which was delicious. The evening quickly passed, all of us working on different projects.Read more

Mom and I had an uneventful morning as Dad left early for UCD. I did some schoolwork and went out to the post office. One of my favorite things about Dublin is that I can walk anywhere, unlike at home. The two of us had lunch and cleaned up the house before hopping on the tram at half 3. We transferred to the commuter rail and took it to Maynooth, where we met a friend of a friend named Yvonne. Our trio went for dinner, then checked out the school where Yvonne works. Eventually, we ended up in a pub for the school’s Trad night. We chatted the night away, arriving home past 10:30!Read more

Walking In The Wind - One Direction

I slept in late today, only catching Dad on his way to campus. Mom and I had breakfast and got ready for the day over the course of the morning. I worked on a project until we left for a Dublin Book Festival event. A long walk later, we met with a dozen or so others at Connolly Station. Our storyteller was incredibly entertaining, making the next hour fly by. On our way home, Mom and I parted ways as she went back to retrieve her hat and I headed home. After an unsuccessful journey on her part, the two of us met at home. The afternoon was pretty chill (literally), Dad came home and brought me to basketball. Practice was fun as I hadn’t seen everyone for a few weeks. At home, we ate a late dinner and then retired for the night!Read more

Dad was out the door before 7 this morning for his half 10 flight to New Haven. Mom and I had a productive morning, both of us working. We exercised before packing for our overnight trip to the midlands. We headed to Connolly (like yesterday) via the tram system. After an hour on the train, we got off to meet our lovely AirBnB host, who brought us to her farm. The three of us spent the evening with the animals, cherishing the final few minutes of daylight. Eventually, Mom and I retired to our cabin for dinner and a screening of The Princess Diaries 2. We’re headed to bed early, expecting the rooster to wake us up at the crack of dawn!Read more
Traveler This donkey has a skin disease and is losing his hair. He’s being treated for it and it should come back. A little pony has a disease that impacts her feet so she has special (sparkly!) shoes to keep them protected. This is an amazing sanctuary with a great couple to care for these animals in need: donkeys, ponies, horses, goats, chickens, ducks, cats, dogs, guinea pigs, and more. Many were dumped along the side of the road or given to them from others who couldn’t take care of them anymore.

Don’t Stop Believing - Journey

Sure enough, Mom and I woke to the sound of a rooster this morning. We quickly got ready to hang with the animals. After a half hour in the field, we had a mini breakfast and read for a while. We packed up and left by 11 o’clock to Enfield. Stopping in a cafe, we ate a big lunch before exploring town. Our train arrived at half 1, taking less than an hour to get us back to Connolly Station. We took the tram home with an intermediate stop for a beanie for Mom, then settled back in Portobello. Our evening was quiet as we both showered and lazed about. Mom made gnocchi for dinner which we followed with some face masks and the Monte Carlo movie!Read more

Both Mom and I slept in late, having a quiet morning of our own. We got ready for the day and hung around the house, planning trips and such. For lunch we made a half buffalo chicken, half pepperoni pizza which turned out incredible. Our afternoon flew by, Mom and I working on our projects. We walked to Lidl for groceries before the sun set, so around 3 o’clock. For dinner we ordered Japanese food, I had ramen and Mom had dumplings. Mom and I ate breakfast and played our NYT games this morning while waiting for Dad to get home. He arrived by 10:45 and we all chatted for a long while about our adventures. We each had something resembling lunch before cleaning up a bit for our guests. Eventually, Mom and I met Scott and Seth to bring them home. We quickly caught up before scurrying out to the FAI (Football Association of Ireland) Finals at Aviva Stadium. I was especially excited as this was my first time seeing a live football match, and it did not disappoint. After a lively game, we ended up in our favorite nearby pub for dinner and plenty of drinks. A few hours later, we’re all exhausted and ready for bed after our long day.Read more

Everyone slept well as we were very tired, so we didn’t start our day until 10:15. Dad left for class shortly after, leaving the four of us to get ready. We headed to brunch around half eleven to a lovely cafe in the neighborhood. After a great meal, we explored the Trinity/Grafton Street area for a few hours. We walked through shops and markets before stopping in The Hairy Lemon pub for drinks and sticky toffee. Chatting, we walked home to meet Dad. We went to another local restaurant for dinner where we ate incredible Indian food. We’re supposedly going to bed soon because Seth and Scott have an early bus to catch, but who knows. Seth and Scott left the house before half 6 this morning to head out on their tour to the Cliffs of Moher. Dad was gone by the time I woke up to teach his morning class. I had a very late breakfast and worked on a school project for a bit. Mom went walking around the neighborhood and we met at home to do some more work. Eventually, I went for a walk of my own to clear my mind and because it was such a beautiful day. My “hike” ended up being over 3 1/2 miles which I felt good about. I came home to an empty house as Mom had gone on a walk of her own, so I had a late lunch. The next few hours were spent doing more work and Mom made dinner around 6. We ate then sat around for a while before all the boys came home. I chatted with everyone before heading to bed, leaving them to their conversation.Read more

We had a quiet morning, Dad working at our neighborhood coffee shop and the rest of us having a nice breakfast. The five of us left for Tara Street Station, arriving by 11:45. Our DART came 20 minutes later, bringing us to Howth. We explored the town for a bit and had some delicious seafood before heading to the cliff walk. Even though I’d been before, the landscape was just a pretty as I remembered. Time flew by, meaning Mom and I had to leave for basketball way too soon. We said goodbye and headed back to the city. Since we were early, the two of us explored the area near practice a bit and got some snacks. Practice was fun, and soon enough we were back on the tram. We came home to a delicious dinner of veggie burgers and ended the night by watching Derry Girls.Read more

Late Night Talking - Harry Styles

I slept in nice and late this morning. Dad and Scott went for a long run and Mom and Seth got pastries. By noon we (minus Dad who needed to finish a lecture) decided to go shopping, so we went out on the town. The four of us hit about a half dozen wool shops and multiple misc stores. At the time of our trip back home, we were spent (haha) and hungry. So, we stopped at Doughboys for incredible sandwiches. With nothing better to do with our evening, we watched at least 3 episodes of Derry Girls. The five of us finally left for our Dublin Literary Pub Crawl at 7, meeting Dad’s friend Paul and his wife Meredith. Our group of about 25 toured Dublin with two guides and learned plenty about Irish authors. The tour ended with a bang because I won the quiz! A bunch of us stuck around a local pub a while, Mom and I arriving home at quarter to midnight. The boys came back after getting food and we all watched The Office before going to bed.Read more

Dad left early this morning for his immigration appointment in the city while the rest of us ate breakfast. We all got ready for the day, and once again headed to Tara Street Station. After getting coffee, we hopped on the Southbound train to Dalkey. We ate a delicious lunch in a local pub to fuel for our upcoming hike. Around 2:30 we hit the base of Killiney Hill, a hike which has some of the best views of the city we’ve seen. We climbed down into Sandycove, and showed the boys the beautiful eastern shore. Once it started raining, we boarded a train then tram home. For dinner we ate an assortment of charcuterie, before splitting up. Mom and I stayed home and watched tv, while the boys went on a pub crawl.Read more

Seth left early for his 10 o’clock flight, and Scott headed out before 11. Both Mom and Dad went out for coffee separately, yet weirdly didn’t run into each other. I started a new book and spent the afternoon chilling while my parents were productive. We finally watched the Loki season 2 finale after dinner, which was mind blowing in a good way. Dad went to bed early (he’s tired!) and Mom and I followed later.Read more

I slept through most of the morning and woke up to eat breakfast and read. While I lazed about, Dad continued to work on his lecture and Mom exercised. Dad and I went running mid afternoon while Mom bought a few groceries. We had an early dinner around 6 and spent the evening chatting. Mom and I spent almost 45 minutes playing Alexa’s Song Quiz before heading upstairs for the night.Read more

My parents and I spent the morning eating breakfast, playing NYT games, and reading. Dad left for his haircut and class before 10, leaving Mom and I to clean up the house. We did tidy up for our guests and I completed schoolwork as well before we headed to Connolly Station. There we met Sarah and brought her home, where we chatted for a few hours. Dad arrived home, joining our small talk before we all walked to our favorite pub for dinner. After our lovely meal, we took a short tour of the neighborhood and continued talking for the rest of the evening. Eventually, we headed to bed, exhausted from our days.Read more

I woke up late this morning to Mom dragging me downstairs for breakfast and schoolwork. Dad was long gone since it’s a teaching day. Once I finished some of my work, I headed to the post office for stamps. After a busy morning, Sarah left for lunch with a colleague. Around the same time, Mom and I walked to Dunnes for groceries. We split up at home, her going out to another store while I did my math. Dad came home and left shortly for a run with Sarah, the two of them trying to beat the early sunset. Later, Mom and I made pizza for dinner with a dessert of mince pies. After a great meal, we chatted and ended the evening by introducing Sarah to Derry Girls. (I don’t think she was a fan.)Read more
