• Cinque Terre - Monterosso, Vernazza

    May 11 in Italy ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

We woke up to the sound of crashing waves right outside our window. It was overcast, a bit windy, and the surf was pumping. It’s normally flat and calm most days, like it was last night when we went to bed. Today, woah! We jumped in a train and went one stop to Vernazza (3 minutes) we wandered around the gorgeous fishing village with colourful vertical houses, all clinging to the cliffs. STAIRS! Never seen so many stairs, they were going in every direction. Some were nearly as high as your knee, but about 6 inches deep. Only enough to get half your foot on. It’s was a shame the little harbour was getting smashed by the waves, but it was still stunning and very different to anything we have back home. We loved it. 😍 We sat down next to the harbour, had a beer each and watched the waves crash over the break wall. The weather brightened up during the day but the surf was relentless. We got the train back to Monterosso and had a nice dinner before heading home. We had to keep the windows shut because the sound of the waves was too loud to get to sleep. Lol Tomorrow is supposed to be sunny all day.Read more
