• Athens to Cappadocia, Turkey

Just a short 5 minute walk to the subway to get a train to the airport. We flew Turkish Airlines to Istanbul, then changed to a regional plane to Nevsehir airport. We were coming in to land, hit the tarmac for a few seconds, then the pilot gunned it and took off again. Not something that has ever happened to either of us in all the flights we’ve ever been on. We were all wondering what on earth is going on? The guy next to me pulled out the safety information card and started reading it. 😂😂 The pilot came across the intercom saying there was an animal on the runway and it wasn’t safe to land. I call BS. He would have seen the animal from miles away. Why would he touch down then take straight off again?? I reckon it was a pilot in training and he overshot the landing? We climbed quite high and flew around for about another 20 minutes before heading back to the runway. I honestly thought it was going to happen again. We were flying over the end of the runway for quite a few seconds before touching down. I didn’t think we’d have enough room to stop, but he braked A LOT heavier than normal to stop in time. The man next to me said a little prayer. 🙏 Everyone on the plane cheered and clapped when we landed. 😂After picking up our hire car we drove through the countryside to Cappadocia. Our room was partly inside a cave, like a lot of other hotels here. We dropped our bags and went for a walk into town. It was a lot bigger than I expected, and not crowded at all because it was later in the afternoon. We found a nice restaurant for dinner, then made our way back to our room to relax. I had a balloon flight booked early in the morning so I needed my beauty sleep. 💤Læs mere
