Scala Santa

This morning we were able do something unexpected. The Scale Santa are the steps that Jesus walked up when he was persecuted by Pontius Pilate.

We had heard that they were closed because the marble steps had become too worn. Apparently they covered the steps with wood and are open again.

The building is filled with beautiful frescos (see second picture) on the walls and ceiling.

Lastly, while there we are told the stairs were originally in Jerusalem, but were relocated to Rome by Emperor Constantine's mother. Fun fact.Читать далее
