Omarama to Kurow

Big day but best track and views so far. The photos don't show how high, narrow and winding the track was going around the Benmore dam, nor the lack of safety barriers - you just had to be careful. Staying in Oamaru tonight and tomorrow night for one last long ride from Kurow to Oamaru tomorrow.
Mark spent half an hour talking to the owner of those stone cottages. It's all that's left of Wharekuri, a town of 3000 people who built the Waitaki Dam in 1929. He took me through the hotel he has restored as his home. The rest of his 40 acres involves restoring those cottages and selling them off as quarter acre lots with land.
