  • Townsville

    August 9, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

This morning saw more research on toilet parts 🙄 before heading off for some shopping - boring stuff - food.

We received some sad news - Alf, Franks dad passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. 😔. We are now waiting on news of his funeral so that we can organise a flight home for Frank.

This afternoon we took the kids 🐶🐶 for a walk along the beach and some time for reflection.

  • Productive day

    August 14, 2023 in Australia ⋅ 🌙 15 °C

Well I was up at the ungodly hour of 4am to drive Frank to the airport so that he could catch his flight back to Perth for his dad’s funeral. Not a pleasant reason to make the trek back.

As for the rest of the day I spent it productively cleaning and sorting the Van.

Call me Sadie the cleaning lady 🧹🧺🪣🧼

Today the kids 🐶🐶 and I headed out to the Palmetum - Townsville’s Botanical Garden.

  • Experiment

    August 16, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

This morning saw me and the fur kids take a tranquil walk along the beach to start the day.

Just for the scientists out there I thought I would conduct an experiment 😝.
Well, it turns out that I have the same properties as those mozzie zappers as I am able to attract numerous little biting bugs 🦟 Yes, I am a smorgasbord for these creatures. Anti histamines and itch cream are my new best friends 🤣Read more

  • Charters Towers

    August 19, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

We are on the road again 🚙

First stop is Charters Towers - an old Gold Mining Town with a rich heritage. We got there just after lunch and being a Saturday, everything was either shut or shutting down. So, we did our own walking tour of the town, and it has some beautiful old buildings.

Unbeknownst to us Charters Towers is also home to WWII bunkers as it housed US & Aus troops that flew in the battle of the Coral Sea against the Japanese.

This is a budding Paleontologists dream. Fossils, exhibits and the history of Dinosaurs in Australia.

I got to be a kid again, having fun completing Dinosaur tracings found through the canyon in the booklet given to us at the start. 🦖 ✏️.

    Great place to visit 🦕🦖🦕🦖

  • Barcaldine

    August 23, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

On our journey we passed through the town of Barcaldine - apparently the birthplace of the Labour Party 🤔 and home to the tree of knowledge.

To me just a small cute outback country town.

  • Sculpture Trail - part 1

    August 23, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

Well a small miscalculation saw us start the Sculpture Trail just out of Aramac at the finish 😳🙄😝 as we seem to tend to do on occasion.

  • Blackall

    August 24, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

  • Tambo to Charleville

    August 25, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

A stop in Tambo to check out the famous Tambo Teddies - an industry that was used to help with the wool crisis in 1992/1993. It started out small with some volunteers used to make the teddies 🧸 and has since grown to have world wide distribution. I can tell you the teddies are really cute 🥰

    Next stop Charleville.

Tonight’s entertainment set up next to the van and I have to say weren’t too bad. Sorry no photos as I only took video clips - not good for a book 😁

Dinner was at the lovely Rocks Restaurant.

Today we saw the release of a weather balloon 🎈 from the local weather station. A first for me - all fully automated.

A wander through the WWII ‘secret base’ museum. Outback Queensland is a hive of army bases for WWII - some trivia for you.

Then just because we can and I have to say all the outback towns are blending in we had an afternoon to relax catch up on social media, clean and tidy after all the dust from the sculpture trail.
