  • Change of schedule

    8 de agosto de 2023, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Today saw us make a change in our plans as we have to head to Townsville for caravan toilet parts - our crapper crapped itself 😖🚽

We get to catch up with Maria and Nigel and then spent the afternoon researching toilet parts. Not quite the research I wanted 🤔Leer más

  • Townsville

    9 de agosto de 2023, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

This morning saw more research on toilet parts 🙄 before heading off for some shopping - boring stuff - food.

We received some sad news - Alf, Franks dad passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. 😔. We are now waiting on news of his funeral so that we can organise a flight home for Frank.

This afternoon we took the kids 🐶🐶 for a walk along the beach and some time for reflection.

  • Townsville

    10 de agosto de 2023, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

Can’t complain about our camp site for our time in Townsville - Thanks Maria & Nigel 🤗

Todays adventures include a walk along the water front in Townsville known as The Strand and lunch of course. I think we wore the kids out with 6 kms of walking and sightseeing 😳

Then a trip up to Castle Hill lookout for a Birds Eye view before heading back to base camp.

  • Rest day

    11 de agosto de 2023, Australia ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

As we are in Townsville for a little while (well I am as Frank heads home on Monday for his dads funeral 😔) it was a mixed day of odd jobs, cleaning the car and a couple of gardening things to help Maria and Nigel seeing as we are staying with them. 🙃Leer más

  • Magnetic Island

    12 de agosto de 2023, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 21 °C

A ferry ride leads us to Magnetic Island 8km from Townsville.

After a bus ride to Horseshoe Bay, a relaxing wander around and lunch at the pub we head off on the Forts Trail Head and make our way to Arcadia before walking along Gabul Way back to Nelly’s Bay and our ferry ride home.

Lots of walking around a beautiful part of Queensland.

  • Productive day

    14 de agosto de 2023, Australia ⋅ 🌙 15 °C

Well I was up at the ungodly hour of 4am to drive Frank to the airport so that he could catch his flight back to Perth for his dad’s funeral. Not a pleasant reason to make the trek back.

As for the rest of the day I spent it productively cleaning and sorting the Van.

Call me Sadie the cleaning lady 🧹🧺🪣🧼

  • The Palmetum

    15 de agosto de 2023, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Today the kids 🐶🐶 and I headed out to the Palmetum - Townsville’s Botanical Garden.

Not only is it a beautiful place but it is home to the Black Hawk Tragedy Memorial when in 1996, 18 SAS members lost their lives in a collision of Black Hawk Helicopters during a defense force exercise.Leer más

  • Experiment

    16 de agosto de 2023, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

This morning saw me and the fur kids take a tranquil walk along the beach to start the day.

Just for the scientists out there I thought I would conduct an experiment 😝.
Well, it turns out that I have the same properties as those mozzie zappers as I am able to attract numerous little biting bugs 🦟 Yes, I am a smorgasbord for these creatures. Anti histamines and itch cream are my new best friends 🤣Leer más

  • Preparation day

    18 de agosto de 2023, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Well today is our final day in Townsville. After picking Frank up last night from the airport we are prepping to leave tomorrow and continue on with our journey.

So some cleaning, washing, shifting and lifting is being down before a BBQ dinner and farewell drink to Nigel and Maria.Leer más

  • Charters Towers

    19 de agosto de 2023, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

We are on the road again 🚙

First stop is Charters Towers - an old Gold Mining Town with a rich heritage. We got there just after lunch and being a Saturday, everything was either shut or shutting down. So, we did our own walking tour of the town, and it has some beautiful old buildings.

Unbeknownst to us Charters Towers is also home to WWII bunkers as it housed US & Aus troops that flew in the battle of the Coral Sea against the Japanese.

  • Jurassic Park

    20 de agosto de 2023, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

Today we entered the start of a two day Jurassic Tour. We arrive in Hughenden and paid a visit to the dinosaur 🦕🦖 museum.

We then hit the road along the Australian Dinosaur Trail towards Winton.

  • Australian Age of Dinosaurs

    21 de agosto de 2023, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 19 °C

Today we headed to the Australian Age of Dinosaurs 🦖 where we got a guided tour of the March of the Titanosaurs and got to wander through Dinosaur Canyon.

This is a budding Paleontologists dream. Fossils, exhibits and the history of Dinosaurs in Australia.

I got to be a kid again, having fun completing Dinosaur tracings found through the canyon in the booklet given to us at the start. 🦖 ✏️.

    Great place to visit 🦕🦖🦕🦖

  • Barcaldine

    23 de agosto de 2023, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

On our journey we passed through the town of Barcaldine - apparently the birthplace of the Labour Party 🤔 and home to the tree of knowledge.

To me just a small cute outback country town.

  • Sculpture Trail - part 1

    23 de agosto de 2023, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 29 °C

Well a small miscalculation saw us start the Sculpture Trail just out of Aramac at the finish 😳🙄😝 as we seem to tend to do on occasion.

Check out some of the sculptures along the way - bearing in mind we are only 2/3 of the way through it 😳 when we camp for the night.Leer más

  • Tambo to Charleville

    25 de agosto de 2023, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

A stop in Tambo to check out the famous Tambo Teddies - an industry that was used to help with the wool crisis in 1992/1993. It started out small with some volunteers used to make the teddies 🧸 and has since grown to have world wide distribution. I can tell you the teddies are really cute 🥰

    Next stop Charleville.

Tonight’s entertainment set up next to the van and I have to say weren’t too bad. Sorry no photos as I only took video clips - not good for a book 😁

Dinner was at the lovely Rocks Restaurant.

  • Charleville

    26 de agosto de 2023, Australia ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

Today we saw the release of a weather balloon 🎈 from the local weather station. A first for me - all fully automated.

A wander through the WWII ‘secret base’ museum. Outback Queensland is a hive of army bases for WWII - some trivia for you.

Then just because we can and I have to say all the outback towns are blending in we had an afternoon to relax catch up on social media, clean and tidy after all the dust from the sculpture trail.
