    6–10 apr. 2024, Sydafrika ⋅ ☁️ 68 °F

We have a four night overland safari. There are eight of us in our group. Tom and Catherine, Stacey and Ursula and Randy and Vicki from SD.
We are staying at the Sungalwane Private Game Lodge. It is amazing. We have a safari late this afternoon and then both morning and night safaris on the 7th and 8th. We finish with a morning safari on the 9th and are then taken to the airport in Durban and fly to CapeTown. Were have 6 opportunities to see the Big 5.
We have a full day excursion on the 10th in CapeTown and reboard our ship late that afternoon. A trip of a lifetime!
Well things don’t always go as planned.
Today we were to disembark in Richard’s Bay. Due to high winds and swells along with a narrow harbor. We were unable to go so we moved on to Durban but wouldn’t get there till about 3:00. Our transportation to our lodge agreed to meet us there instead but we would have a 3 hr drive to the lodge instead of 1.5 hours.
While we waited Gail Lee did a pop up felting project to make a bracelet. That was fun.
Once we got to Durban the weather quickly changed. The winds picked up, the swells grew in higher and were more intense. After two attempts to dock, we had to abort Durban as well.
No overland safaris for us at least on this trip.
We are now heading to our next port of call, Port Elizabeth. We arrive there on Monday the 8th weather permitting.
Dinner in the restaurant tonight with Vicki and Randy. We discussed alternatives to get to Richard’s Bay but the flights are just too long and/or complicated. No pictures of today.
Seas are bouncy tonight. Hope they calm down soon.
