Hello, Bujumbura

After about an hour and a half flight from Nairobi I finally set foot in Burundi. A major accomplishment from 3 years ago.
My Journey To Burundi

It all started with a 13hr flight from JFK, then a 4.5 he airport sit in Nairobi before an hour and a half flight to Burjumbura.
Hotel Blue Velvet

A $40-50 per night hotel with a great owner and staff. Located in a quiet area next to UN and South African Embassy complexes.
Plage de Burjumbura

A popular spot on a Saturday afternoon although you'll have to pay an entrance fee to fully enjoy.
Festive Beach Day

Music designed to put everyone in a fun mood, especially the kids.
Friendship Memorial

Dedicated to the bonds between Japan and Burundi.
Independence Square

Thanks to hotel owner I am treated to a late afternoon tour around the city.
Mountainside View

Although a bit hazy it is still a nice view of the city from this historical spot.
First President Memorial

Over looking the city is a dedication to the country's first president who led Burundi to become independent in 1962.
Peace Memorial

Like most countries Burundi has had it's sad times but the country is now at peace. Even so that peace is maintained with a military presence around the city. There is even personnel around with handLæs mere
Regina Mundi Cathedral

A part of the Catholic faith which is big here.
A Nice Dinner

For a local taste and flavor I have my first meal in Burundi at Hotel Blue Velvet. A well presented meal served with a local brew that is traditionally drunk warm. All for about $11.😋
Balance Biking

I'm always impressed with human ingenuity in Africa. This act takes skills.
Ruszi Delta

An expensive outing $100 for 45m boat ride. Original plan was to do hiking but heavy rain overnight made trails impossible and almost broke the bank.. 🙄
Boat Preparation

Boat motor and gasoline is locked up in storage until need.. Then wheel barreled to locked boat as needed.
Launch Spot

This area of the river is fed all the way from the Congo and today is moving at pretty fast clip.
Rusizi Bridge

Pretty modern and seemly well built.
Can You Spot Me..

Don't lie.. or it will just be a bunch of Croc..🤪
Cruising Rusizi Delta

We spot a lot of Hippo's mostly along the river's edge. However, they rapidly disappear at the sound of us approaching.
Water Border

One spot where Ruisizi River meets Lake Tanganyika which serves as natural border with DRC and Tanzania. Lake Tanganyika is also the world's longest freshwater lake.
Can You See Me...

I have got my eyes on you.. and that's no croc...
Happy Hippo's

Although a few of them should probably join Nutri System. I'm not pointing any fingers but at least one or two of them are about 3 tons!
Goodbye Hippo's

Wish it could have been a 3 hour tour.. A 3 Hour Tour..🙃
National Election Rally

Taking to the streets to support your candidate.
Hotel Club du Lac Tanganyika

Nice.. and probably expensive resort hotel but a good spot for lunch and to enjoy a Lake Tanganyika beach.
