Turkish Airlines

My journey starts in Atlanta with an almost 11 hour flight to Istanbul. The "Dreamliner" flight gets of to a late start but traveling on Turkish is otherwise a typical great experience as I...Widen MyLeia mais
737 Max...

After the "Dreamliner".. I think this is my first trip on the once controversial 737 Max. 6hrs and 37 minutes from now I will be touching down in Douala.
Welcome To Cameroon

An uneventful flight except sitting next to a nervous flyer who gripped my arm during a few minutes of turbulence. I was more than happy to interrupt my movie watching to try and provide some comfort.
Persona Non Grata

A nice airport with normal arrival procedures including COVID testing. Employees were all friendly including 10 minute screening in a private room by "Special Police Taskforce". Since I had to pay forLeia mais
The First Meal

And it's a delicious one. Fresh fish with onions, a cassava "Swirl" and of course two tasty pepper sauces.. Finger eating.. and licking good!
Hotel Saffana

Nice "Airport Hotel" accommodations with great WiFi.. Cold AC.. Clean and Comfortable.. but can they please provide a "Smaller Soap"..
Bigger Please

Probably one of the smallest hotel soap that I've ever come across.
Breakfast At Saffana

Included in the price of the room.. the "Fried Donuts" are a delicious treat for breakfast along with fresh fruit and a hot cup of tea.
A Visa.. Finally

A trip back to the airport and I'm officially legal to enter Cameroon after having my passport held overnight... along with an almost 2hr wait for the right people to show up at work.
Drive By City Tour

A quick glimpse of Cameroon colonial.. German past..and a view of "Le Palais" once the home to Cameron's Royalty.
A Delicious Stop...

The freshest of fruit you'll find anywhere and the vendors are more than happy to give you an abundance of free samples.
A Rainy Afternoon...

But still a beautiful lush green countryside.
Cassava Bread...

A local favorite that's sold on the street.
Ekom Nkam Waterfall

Sometimes known as " Tarzan Waterfalls" because of a movie shot here.. although grounds are in need of maintenance and upgrades the 3000 XAF is worth the price of admission.
My Mango Tree..

If someone day a mango tree grows at this stop no doubt it will be from the seed I tossed here. I hope the fruit it bears will be as delicious as it's forefather.
The View From The Top

For those who are daring a challenge is to take a picture on the fallen tree.. on a rainy afternoon..I will pass..
Take A Hike..

But use caution and you'll see some even more impressive views.
Simply Spectacular

A destination that's worth the journey.
Pounding Peacefulness..

Amazing the thundering sounds and force of Ekom Nkam could be so peaceful.
Beauty Missed..

The overwhelming size of Ekom Nkam can make it easy to miss the other beautiful things here like budding flowers or the songs of hidden birds.
Lunch Time...

The local way with a selection of small grilled meats served on a newspaper with a chill cumin combo to add just the right kick.
Dinner Is Served...

Having dinner at my hotel restaurant I give them an avocado that I had purchased early in the day. I was pleasantly surprised the way they prepared and presented it.. Made my meal and the avocado evenLeia mais
Hotel Altitel

A nice overnight stay in a non-ac room for about $25 per night.
On The Road Again..

Compared to many other African countries the roads and infrastructure in Cameroon is petty good. A fuel stop where "Gasoil" is just under $4 per gallon and we're off for more touring of Cameroon.
Bandjoun Kingdom

A kingdom still active today but very much modernized. A little maintained and practically never opened Royal Museum and Culture Center gives a glimpse of it's past glory days.
