Perfect time for a walk with a nice sea breeze blowing on shore. Not many locals out and about maybe because they know there are a lot of sidewalk potholes.

Not sure what it is but seems like some dedication to the arts or theater. Those do look like comfortable shoes.. You can tell a lot about a person by the shoes they're wearing.

Interesting Monument

Located across street from Presidential Palace. Seems to be memorial to the end of slavery with an interesting concept. Did get chased away by Presidential security yelling from across the street. Shortly afterwards a military patrol unit just.. "happened" to drive by as I was leaving.En savoir plus

Liberville Day Trip

With little to see and do in Liberville and being unable to rent a car on my own, I hire a car and a driver for the day. The plan is to go to Akanda National Park which is only 13 miles away. Interestingly, no one I have talked to since arriving knows how to get there.En savoir plus

Grace's Home

Ended up here in effort to go to Akanda National Park. Grace runs Monday Ecotour with tours to Akanda. However, she requires at least a day's notice. This was apparently not communicated to her by the company where I hired the car and driver from yesterday. In any event it is an expensive outing where somehow my desire got lost in translation.

In the end I got to visit inside a Gabon home of an apparently connected family. Gracie's mom is President of The Local Chamber of Commerce who has met Pope Paul and many local heavyweights. Her deceased father was a game hunter and their home still displays some of his hunting trophies.En savoir plus

With Akanda plan axed, Grace suggested a visit to a nearby village followed by a trip to a beach not too far from the village. It wasn't long before our car was going for a swim and the village visit axed. The gravel road soon became a mud crater that was way beyond the Kia's capability to navigate.En savoir plus
