    My flight to Madrid went over Toulouse. Having 5 hours time there, I decided to walk towards the city centre and back on a nice cycle path - 7.3 km. Than I had a sandwich and beer at the airport.

    At 2300 I arrived at the Hostal Emilio (39e) near the Madrid airport. The room wasn't so nice but the beer was good :)Baca lagi

    1 Tres Cantos 33km

    At about 4pm I've arrived at my planed destination Tres Cantos. Unfortunately all 6 Hotels were full !! So I've tried to book anything nearby over the internet and get one of the 3 last rooms in hotel Chiscon in the next town, but it ment another 12km walking (after 33km today). I had a linner (beer+salad+beer) and went slowly further.Baca lagi

    the last part was bad - I was tired and thirsty and the centre of the town on a steep slope, the hotel even farther away. I bought some drinks in the first shop : beer, big water, 1l orange juice, coke (but f... sin coffeine - it looks nearly like normal coke, except a small brown bar. Nowadays there are so many kind of coke and the good healthy classic coke dies away and you have to search it in the shop with a magnifier).
    The town (el=800m) is full of storks, at least 100, some of them (20?) nested on the church, a=some on the trees or other buildings. The hotel was nice, I've got a big room (44e), and after some rest I took a bath, then I rested again - I couldn't move. But otherwise I'm fine except of one blister.    Baca lagi

    After my big breakfast it was too early for a lunch, so I brought something in the shop: watermelon, jogurt (thought I'll need the cup as a spoon for the watermelon, bit I could eat it with my small plastic spoon), water, tomato juise and beer (actually I wanted buy a coke, because I've bad too much beer yesterday (8), but they really don't have any nornal coke - incredible, the world is really breaking down).
    Menzanares is a nice town with a nice medieval castle.    Baca lagi

    2 Mataelpino 23km

    With 2kg more, my backpack was much too heavy, so I've had to drink my supplies as soon as possible.
    At 15h I've arrived at Mataelpino, still not hungry at all ( obviously I have enough fat in my body to digest) , I've got a beer and a real coke !!! (so the world in eventually not breaking down). I learned a new very important Spanish word: una jarra - means jar = large beer, una caña is a small beer.
    In the town there is a nice alberque, but it was too early, so I decide to book a room (last one) in an hotel in Cercedilla (12km). Anyway I will need a good rest before the big mountain crossing tomorrow.    Baca lagi

    Nice cooling breeze from the mountains made the walk more comfortable than yesterday.
    At about 8pm I've arrived at Hostal Aribel Longinos (35e) in Cercedilla (el=1200m).
    The receptionist didn't speek any English, so I've had to use my fluent Spanish. The room was OK, but not very quiet because of the main street there.
    No calf pain yet (is it the beer or the magnesium tablets I take ?), just the back - I hope in the morning it will be OK.    Baca lagi

    Segovia is a very nice historical town with lots of tourists, with big cathedral and mighty castle. The alberque (8e) was 2km after the town in the next village. It was new, very nice, with kitchen and 2 big rooms with 10 double beds. Fortunately only two other pilgrims were in my room, one of them with a bike from Madrid.Baca lagi

    After some rest I went to a restaurant for dinner a wifi. I managed to order una jarra but the beer wasn't much bigger. A women at the next table got a bigger glass, so maybe there is another trick.
    After the beer I've got salad and glass of wine.
    For the first time I've got calf pain (not enough beer or the mountain? ). The ointment helped only for 1 hour, only after taking Aulin I fell asleep.    Baca lagi

    8h Boring walk across the fields on dirty roads (hard work to wash to socks afterwards) . The were no bars or shops on the way, fortunately there was a water pipe in every village. At 3pm I've arrived at Santa Maria ... The alberque was closed, and I've had to call the owner and explain him with my perfect Spanish that I need the key. So I went first to a bar for a lunch (una jarra (he showed me 2 different glasses and I chose the bigger), fresh orange juice and some tappas). Than I went back to the alberque and was about to call the owner, when suddenly the doors opened and the one of the Pilgrims from the last night came out (he had got the key in the meantime) . He spoke good English, so he couldn't be Spanish. He was from Colombia, studying business - management in Madrid. I asked him about the situation in Colombia. He told me that after the government made a deal with the guerrilla the country is safe a prospering.
    He is planning to go all the way to Santiago.
    The alberque is nice, small (6p) on 5e donation.
    In the evening I was chatting with Frodrigo about Santiago (it was his 4th time, first time alone, before with brother and mother ), life in Colombia, in Europe (he was once on Malta on holiday) ....    Baca lagi

    8h, Nice walk through the woods, breakfast in Nava de la Asuncion (watermelon, yogurt, tomatoes, peaches). In Coca nice Castle, there is an Albergue, but it was too early and only 21km, so I went to Villeguillo and asked in the bar for the key. There was another Pilgrim (he started in Santa Maria as well, but stayed in a hostel). He had already a key and brought me (after my jarra) to the registration a to the alberque (5e). He was Spanish, so he spoke very little English.
    In the evening he left (why?, where to? I didn't understand) and I stayed alone.

    7 Peñaflor de Hornija 36/242km

    First nice pinewood, than boring infinite fields. Nice castle in Simancas. Fortunately, because of the wind, it wasn't so hot.
    In Wamba I've got 2 jarras and some olives (first stop after 26km). I arrived at my planned destination (Peñaflot) at 16:30. First I've got a shock seeing a note at the door of the alberque, that it is closed (cerrado) from 30.7. to 13.8.! Next one is about 9km further.
    I went to a bar a asked (after una jarra grande) about the alberque. Fortunately there was a helpful woman who brought me to the mayor, who gave me the key. So, eventually I've got a very nice alberque (3e) for me alone.
    For a "dinner" I went to an another bar (there was at least 2 in the small village) : 2 beer + tappas + a glass of wine = 5.6e! The wine was too good, so I've ordered another glass; it was only 0.7e, incredible! And I've got some chips as well.
    My plan for tomorrow: either 23 or 47 km.    Baca lagi

    Until 0:30 the place in front of the alberque was a meeting place for the kids of the village, so quite noisy, but then it was quiet and I slept well.
    I set off at 8:30 and arrived to Medina at 1pm - too early to stay here, so another 23 km to the next alberque. I bought some fruits and some drinks.Baca lagi

    First 8 km were nice along the Canal de Castilla, then again across fields. Fortunately it was partly cloudy = not so hot. Part of the way I was running because I couldn't walk any more, but eventually I've arrived to the alberque in Cuena de C. at 18:30. The hospitalero just came from the albergue, so no problem with calling anyone. The albergue was big and nice, 6e. There were two another bike-pilgrims, but I've got a room for me alone. After nice hot shower, washing the clothes (except the socks - they were done) and some rest I went to a restaurant for dinner. No salad, so I've take cheese and a bottle of wine (10e). After the dinner I've watch the local teenagers playing basketball, fortunately it wasn't directly in front of the albergue.Baca lagi

    8:20 not very nice walk across the fields all the day. In Santervas de Campos I've got beer and some tappas. At 16:30 I've arrived in Grajal de Campos. The albergue (6e) was in the basement of a some kind of museum direct on the main square (not very good perspective for the night). First I've got a tel. number in the bar, but I couldn't dial it (this problem we had had already couple years ago). Then I got to the albergue through the museum. The hospitalero came some time later.
    After some rest I went to a restaurant and had my first "ordinary" meal: hamburger with french fries and salad.
    This will be the last night on Camino de Madrid. Tomorrow I will join the Camino Frances in Sahagún.    Baca lagi

    The night was quite behind the 1m thick walls, despite the playing children on the square. In Sahagún I've join the Camino Frances = the main way from Pyrenees to Santiago. Only about 60 km to my destination - Leon, and still 3 days left.

    After another beer (the beer here (Amstel) is not so good as Mahou) and an orange juice I've decided to stay here in a nice albergue La Laguna, but instead of overcrowded dormitory/9e (all the lower beds were already occupied) I took a room for 30e.
    After some relaxing in the beautiful yard of the albergue I went for dinner (salad+beer) and bought a bottle of a 'very expensive‘ wine (1.45e) for the evening.
    The albergue become really full in the evening, even a family with small children (6y) came in. They were from Germany (Aachen) finishing their way, which they started last year.
    I was happy to have a room for myself.    Baca lagi

    17:30 "you have reached your destination" would my navi tell me, if I had one. After 11 days and 386 km = 35 km/day and 8 kg lighter (95->87).
    Checked in in Hostel España - I've got some discount, because somehow the booking was for 2 persons, so I've paid only 60e.
    I couldn't make any big sightseeing this evening (after 38 km and I've got a new big blister on my right foot), just went for dinner a bought some wine and fruits.    Baca lagi

    12 León

    First in the morning I went to the railway station to print out my online ticket, than sightseeing.
    León is a nice historical town founded by a Roman legion in 1st century BC. There is a beautiful Cathedral and a house Casa Botines build by Antoni Gaudí.
