    Sevilla, late 2023 sun getaway

    November 4, 2023 in Spain ⋅ 🌬 22 °C

Early start, 1am for airport, effortless trouble free all the way to Seville.
First impressions are that this is a really nice place, hotel is good, weather is great. Second impressions after walking 20k steps in North sector of old town is that it is very good and on its way to being best place we have stayed and seen in Spain.
On our afternoon exploration we stopped in a local bodega where Diane asked for sangria and they said NO, they had their own version; red wine, ice, lime and bitter lemon. I just wanted red wine and took a sip when the barmaids threw their hands up in horror. Your not supposed to try that rot gut red wine!!! That's why they add ice, lemon and lime. All in it cost us 4 euros, poor wine but great place.
Found a supermarket on way back to get a bottle of wine with a screw top as i dont have a corkscrew for the afternoon. It tasted really heavy and sweet, then Diane found it was sherry! All got 6 euros!
Ps,,,some lovely buildings and churches/basilicas i have photographed here not quite to Diane's taste!

    Sunday in Sevilla

    November 5, 2023 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 20 °C

A sunny day of slow wandering around. First to Setas de Sevilla (the wooden mushrooms, brilliant) then to convent san ildefonso for cakes thru the door but closed (will have go another day) then to catholic church divini Salvador (brilliant 400 year old wooden and gold leaf alters etc) mixed with a few drinks and a very good tapas lunch. Another +20k steps, feet are a bit sore.
Tonight is as busy as last night at 8pm, dont kids go to bed here! absolutely packed. There must be close to 100 bars/restaurants near us packed outside on street.

    sherry purchase

    November 6, 2023 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

The last 2 nights we have stopped to buy wine with screwtop as we don't have corkscrew. Each night when back and trying it we have found it to be sherry! They don't sell wine in screwtop bottles here!
Another bigger day of walking; back to convent for confectionaries thru door, then the best so far, plaza de espana. This was awesome, beautiful, old, free and there are not many places I have seen that equal it. Then cathedral walkby before tapas lunch and then we hit the oldest tapas bar in Sevilla, 1670! Finally a long slog back to hotel to rest our weary legs and sore feet.
What a difference, tonight is so quiet, I guess 2950 of the tapas bars here are closed after the weekend.

    Breakfast chaos

    November 7, 2023 in Spain ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

Breakfast lady at weekend has not worked for past 2 days and the young men here need some serious training or sacking! They are like laurel & hardy. Today I got a croissant without ham and cheese so sent it back, then got ham and cheese on toast so ate it, then cheese and ham croissant arrived! So i guess i might have eaten someones breakfast. Mam nearly pissed her pants laughing.
Did River walk to Triana then back to hotel after another 6 hours, 20k steps. Triana market was really good.
Good tapas tonight, got to have bulls tail, orange wine and traditional cheesecake.

    Sevilla last day

    November 8, 2023 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

Forgot to mention that last night we had orange wine, really nice.
Today was another long day of walking and revisiting to places now open as well as a new district.
Revisited our favourite bodega bar, a real locals place. Then to the basilica that was closed when we first saw it. Then to Palace Las duenas.
    Lasting impressions;
Sevilla is a great place to visit, weather at this time of year was perfect, food good, beverages better and very sore tired feet.
Remember to stay for a second glass of wine, they always fill the second one higher.

Got to airport early to sort out Diane's ticket, we had trouble with booking at Gatwick but was assured it was fixed. It wasn't. We spent 2 hours at check in desk and they could not get Mrs Paul Nemec changed to Diane Nemec. BA could not be contacted, mam was going to have to stay in Spain! In the end i bought a separate ticket for mam at £550 vs the £400 we paid for returns! Its going to be fun getting the money back! Mams already on the case.
