I decide to explore the local area in the opposite direction this morning which brings me to Thian hock Keng temple. Built in 1842 is the oldest Chinese temple in Singapore and dedicated to Mazu who was honoured for the safe sea journey of the immigrants he brought here. This is one of the temples I'm actually allowed to enter and I'm blown away by the details in the architecture. I've decided today I'm going to do something touristy and book in at The Gardens at the bay. I put the address in Google maps which ends up walking ne through a a building site. There is lots of building going on on the waterfront area but if they can charge £300 per night like in the Marina bay I'd be throwing hotels up all over the place. Everything has to be prebooked to regulate numbers although it's very quiet when I arrive which is the perks of going on a weekday.
There are two massive glass domes here a very similar set up to the Eden project but on a much grander scale. The first is the flower dome which houses various plants from around the world, even encorporating an English Garden with sweet peas my mums favourite flower bringing a little smile to my face. The next dome houses the cloud forest which o have to say blows me away. This place houses a huge rock covered in various fauna and some of the most amazing orchids I've ever seen. A ramp and walkways encircle this rock and as it says in its title makes you believe you are in the clouds. Sometimes things are hard to put into words how impressive they are and this is one of those places so all I can say is if in Singapore it is one of the must things to do. I take the long walk back to the hotel and reward myself with a cocktail In the rooftop bar
