Drive from Ella to Colombo

We were planning on staying in Ella another night until we checked our flights, and we fly on Sunday 20th, but at 0050 - lucky we checked 🤭, so were heading for the airport 6 hr drive, should arrive about 7.15, 5 hour wait to play cards and have a few drinkies. Then we land in Hong Kong on the 20th at 0930 so it's gonna be a long day, hoping we will sleep on the plane.

Well, the plane thing didn't happen, delayed due to bad weather, so we found the closest hotel on booking.com. we figured we would claim insurance, so we upgraded to $69 USD - way above our normal budget, thinking we were heading for a pretty flash place, and only 1.2 km down the road I thought a walk after 6hrs in a car doable,
Well I was slightly mistaken, no foot paths, dodgy Tuktuk drivers that were relentless to the point one followed us, creepily 😬 so that made us all the more determined to sweat in 30degree heat in the dark dodging traffic, draging our cases through the dirt waiting for a cobra to leap out at us, doing our best to loose the creep.
We halled up at our accommodation and quickly sat down after Rochelle telling the dodgy fucker to leave us alone, we figured a few beersies later he would get the message, then bugger me he went into the hotel and told them he brought us here, once the staff were on to him, they instructed him to leave, we finally relaxed, had dinner and checked in, well the drama didn't stop there, the bar/restaurant were connected so we asked for the bill to be attached to our room so we could claim it on insurance all together, this was no issue at all until we went to check in, not only was the place a shit hole, there were 6 people surrounding us, very intimidating, Fox was starting to heckle at this point....I was just bewildered and Rochelle was getting louder and blunter. We finally got checked in, only to find our room, similar to just about every booking.com / hotel website, it was nothing like it looked online, so we played cards and plotted how to steal shit, leave the hot water running, turn the fridge on and leave it open to cool the room, knick the 2 plastic coat hangers, toilet paper and leave an egg roll behind the bedside unit as they clearly didnt clean behind it, until we calmed down.
Was a shit sleep for us all, so to say it was a great last night that left a good impression, not a bloody chance,.
Sri Lanka, unfortunately, you have made us constantly feel heckled, badged, and quickly learned not to trust anyone.

However, the scenery has made up for a lot, the sights, some foods, and a perspective of how amazing NZ is
all part of why we hop out of our comfort zones.

P.s. We have just found out we have a $150 excess to claim back the $213.00 we spent on our flash hotel for our last night in Sri Lanka, so guess we have to put that one down to an experience we can giggle about now 🤣😂Læs mere
