• Inca Trail Hike

    What an incredible day! We left town and drove up, up, up into the mountains for an hour to Chataquila to start our 4.5 km hike along the Inca trail. This once important commerce route was one of the most extraordinary hikes we have taken with absolutely breathtaking scenery, stunning mountains, colourful landscapes and unique vegetation containing so many medicinal plants. To think that the Incas travelled this route with their goods carried by Llamas, sometimes from 4 am to 9 pm each day, to reach their destination along the trade route between Machu Pichu to La Paz to Chataquila to Maragua was extremely humbling. The entire route is not currently intact due to weather and has not been rebuilt but the portion we were able to trek was nothing short of spectacular along the cliffs, over the streams and up and down the steep slopes.Read more
