    Morocco’s spectacular Atlantic Ocean coastal town of Essaouira, formerly known as Mogador, has a rich history. The town was established in 1760 by Mohamed III, who wanted to develop the area as a naval base. The town, harbour and fortifications were all built in the European fortress style. The inner walls of the Medina, which is a great place to wander through the twisting alleys, are more typical of Islamic style. Today the location attracts artists and hippies, and thanks to the strong winds, it is a great destination for kite surfers.Read more
