• Marrakech By Bicycle Part 1

    We spent a harrowing but exhilarating morning seeing Marrakech by bicycle (22.5 kms/ 3.5 hours). It was a full cultural immersion as we explored life inside the Medina as well as the newer part of the city. The bike tour operator, an NGO called Pikala, has an interesting story and though I feared for my life as we wound our way through the alleys of the Medina and the busy streets of the city, I would not have wanted to miss this culturally rich experience. We had three excellent stops which included a visit to a mosaic craftsman, a baker inside the Medina where dough and other baked goods are brought daily by local families to be baked and a local Hamman where we saw the back end of how a Hamman works and where the pipes of water are heated up and locals can use the ashes from the fire to cook a tangier. At the end of the tour we had tea and sweets at the Picala Cafe as well as a vegan lunch.Læs mere
