• Sunrise at Mt. Bromo

    30. April in Indonesien ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

Happy 65th birthday to me today and what a magical day it was. We left our cozy homestay at 2:30am, travelling by Jeep, to navigate through the darkness on the narrow windy hillside roads to get to the sunrise viewpoint. At times there were three jeeps abreast plus pedestrians and motorcycles on a road barely wide enough to accommodate a single vehicle, so we abandoned the vehicle and driver and walked the rest of the way up. We all made it and it was totally worth the effort. We were blessed with a beautiful sunrise, and a magnificent view of Mt. Bromo from 2,200 meters above sea level. What goes up must eventually come down which was another ordeal that seemed to baffle logic but our jeep caught up with us about 2kms down from the top after we set off walking due to a total gridlock of vehicles. At 6am we had a roadside picnic breakfast of a Nutella and banana sandwich and then continued on to the base of the crater and walked up to the rim to view the inside and see where the people of Muslim faith make theIr offerings and sometimes toss live chickens or sheep into the volcano to give thanks for their blessings.Weiterlesen
