Hiroshima day 2 and Onomichi

We got up early for a tour around the Hiroshima Peace Park with a local guide, Yoko. She told us a harrowing story about her mother's experience as a 12 year old when the bomb was dropped and how she had to help look after her classmates, many of whom did not survive. It was very moving. We learned about the Atomic Dome, a building near the epicentre of the bomb that survived, and about how the city was rebuilt. It was fascinating albeit very sad.
We later caught a train to Onomichi where we were staying, and took a gondola up a hill to see some temples and shrines.Read more
