    Upper Geyser Basin est une zone du parc de Yellowstone où il y’a de nombreux geyser. Le plus connu étant Old Faithful geyser, que l’on retrouve sur les visuels du parc. Il y a de magnifiques couleurs, principalement dues a des microorganismes.

    Hôtel construit en 1903-1904, en rondin, l’un des plus plus grand en rondins. Il est magnifique, et sa salle de dîner également. La cheminée est massive.

    Petite boucle au milieu de diverses sources, mais surtout avec notre premier « mud pot », une grosse flaque de boue mais qui fait des bulles (et dont la fluidité dépend de la pluie). Techniquement c’est tellement acide que cela dissous la roche et la transforme en boue.

    Autre bassin de geysers et autres objets thermaux. Ledge Geyser est celui avec la grande colonne de vapeur (et bruyant). Celui qui fait un bruit a Dark Vador est Veteran Geyser. C’est le lieu où est le plus grand geyser du monde : Steamboat Geyser.

    Mammoth Hot Springs Terrace, Yellowstone

    Ces formations sont des terraces créées lors de l’écoulement de l’eau. Ici l’eau y est moins chaude qu’ailleurs dans le parc. Les terraces se forment et se détruisent au rythme des écoulements d’eau.

    Élément surprenant, un arbre pétrifié. D’apparence il a l’air encore en bois, mais est censé être en pierre. Nous n’avons pas pu approcher suffisamment pour le toucher.

    Grand Canyon of Yellowstone NP, WY

    Le parc de Yellowstone a lui aussi son Grand Canyon. Il est certes plus petit que celui d’Arizona, mais il vaut le détour. La différence est qu’il y a des sources chaudes et des sorties de vapeurs dans le cours de la rivière.

    Mud Volcanos, Yellowstone NP, WY

    Cette zone contient plein de « mud pots » (pot de boue) ou « mud volcano » (volcan de boue). Ils étaient plein d’eau, ce qui laisser plus l’impression de flaque boueuse que de boue proprement dites (ils seront probablement plus secs à la fin de l’été). Il y avait également 2 bisons à proximité immédiate de l’un d’entre eux et qui visiblement n’étaient pas dérangés par la chaleur des vapeurs dégagées.

    This area contains many mud pots or mud volcanoes. They are full of water so it looks more like muddy water than mud (they will dry up a bit during summer and become more muddy). There were 2 bisons lied down next to one of the pot, clearly not disturbed by the steam.     Czytaj więcej

    Quelques vues sur le lac Yellowstone. Il est énorme, 350km2 (à titre de comparaison, le lac de Serre-Ponçon fait 28km2). On a clairement l’impression d’être au bord de l’océan, comme entre Vancouver Island et le reste de la Colombie-Britanique.

    Some views on Yellowstone Lake. It’s massive, 350km2 (to compare, Burrard Inlet in Vancouver is 86km2). We really had the the feeling to be near the ocean, just like between Vancouver Island and coastal BC.     Czytaj więcej
