Lighthouse loop est une petit balade autour de l’extrémité sud d’Ucluelet. Quelqu’un que l’on a croisé nous a conseillé de la faire a l’envers car cela permettait d’avoir des paysages de plus en plus grandioses ! Cela vaut énormément le coup !
Nous aurons même eu la chance de voir 2 ou 3 baleines grises (dont vraisemblablement un baleineau), suffisamment proche pour les voir très clairement à l’œil nu depuis le rivage.

Lighthouse loop is a short walk around the southern part of Ucluelet peninsula. Someone advices us to walk it the opposite direction as landscape are getting better and better this way. That was actually true ! We were lucky enough to see 2 or 3 grey whales (with presumably a calf) close enough from the shore that we were able to see them clearly.Läs mer

Ce matin nous avons marché sur Wickaninnish Beach, partie sud de Long Beach (plus grande plage de sable de l’ouest de l’île de Vancouver).
Sa taille est impressionnante! Il y a juste beaucoup de vent et il fait donc froid !

Kwisitis Beach est une plage légèrement au sud de Long Beach. Elle est surprenante par le nombre de coquille de moules dont elle est constituée. Elle est a proximité dun centre d’interprétation qui malheureusement était fermé quand nous y sommes passés.

South Beach est accessible depuis Wickaninnish Beach grace a un chemin en bois dans la foret. Elle est composée dun sable gris un peu grossier et fait vraiment plage secrète. Elle vaut le coup d’être vue, et la petite balade est sympathique.

Tofino est la ville tout au nord de la péninsule. Elle est réputée pour ses énormes plages de sable, et pour être le paradis des surfeurs de la region. La ville n’est pas très grande mais vaut le detour quitte a être dans la region. Prendre un verre au Shed peut être une bonne idée !

Shorepine bog est une tourbière en plein milieu du Pacific Rim National Park. C’est assez surprenant car les pins sont plutôt des arbres milieux arides, mais la nous sommes dans une zone très humide. Bon nombre d’arbres sont mort et complètement secs.

Sproat Lake est un lac le long de la Highway 4 que nous reprenons pour aller direction le nord-est de l’île. Il y a des petroglyphes datant de -11000 ! C’est aussi le lieu ou se trouvent 2 des plus gros bombardiers d’eau en service datant des années 50.

Ripple Rock était deux mont sous le niveau de la mer, respectivement à 1.8m et 2.7m sous l’eau à marée basse, responsable de plusieurs bateaux coulés. Pour régler le problème, un tunnel a été creusé dessous (27 mois de travaux tout de même!) rempli d’explosifs (1250t !) et boum. Cela en fera la plus grosse explosion non-nucléaire de l’histoire!
Maintenant il y a respectivement 13m et 14m d’espace avec la surface !

L’un des point les plus au nord de l’île de Vancouver ! Leur slogan est « là où l’autoroute s’arrête l’aventure commence » (Where the Highway Ends Adventure Begins »). C’est une petite ville sur la mer plus grosse que ce a quoi on s’attendait. La voir sous le beau temps aurait été bien plus sympathique !
