Day 8: Racecarts

This area of Italy is evidently the center of Italian motor racing.  The introductory level cars are racing carts, which are small open vehicles with two-stroke engines and no seat belts or enclosures. The top speed is about 40-50 mph, which seems extremely fast when you are so close to the ground in such a small vehicle. 

It was extremely hot this day so even during the parts of the challenge that were indoors, we were dripping in sweat all day. 

The first part of the challenge was 2 runs on an F1 simulator. It turns out that spinning out and crashing on a simulator is really easy. I did it a lot.  

Then we went down and got into the race carts and did 2 rounds (about 10 minutes each - multiple laps) in the carts.  Fortunately, crashing in a real one is a bit harder and though several people spun out, nobody crashed.  I didn't spin out, but I was being pretty cautious. 

I soon decided that I didn't need to worry about racing anyone else. Good thing, because I got lapped by everyone, multiple times. I needed to worry about just improving on myself. My goal was to get better each lap. 

Then it was 2 more runs in the simulator followed by two more runs in the carts and by the end we were all hot and sticky and exhausted and ready for the day to end.
