Day 42 Off to Alice Springs

We had planned to stay at Wycliffe Wells, supposedly the UFO capital of Australia. On viewing the place we decided to keep going to Alice. The trip took us past Tennant Creek (didn’t bother stopping) and Barrow Creek. It is only 13km from Barrow Creek where Peter Falconio went missing, Barrow Creek was their last stop heading north. The pub has its normal collection of miscellaneous stuff but this one also has a collection TAC plates (military identification plates on vehicles). I recognised some SIG ones there. Called in and checked out Devils Marbles on the way. We had already changed our caravan park booking in Alice and could not get in early so got a park behind a pub in Alice near the Casino for one night. It was non powered but we could stay hooked up. Went and had dinner at Lassiters Casino. Not as tired and run down as I thought it might be. My last visit to the casino was 1983. Forgot how cold it gets in Alice, was bloody freezing walking back to the van park after dinner.

SATNAV in vehicle. With my Ford Ranger I have apple car play. My satnav app of choice has been Waze. However while I like Waze in cities and on the eastern highways I have found Google maps far better on this trip. Will see how I go when I get back if I go back to Waze.Read more
