What they don’t tell you is the railway line is straight over the fence you back the van up to.
3am freight train roaring in screeching it’s horn, bright light and bloody loud 4 or 5m from the back of the van. Just get back to sleep and a passenger train blasts pass.Read more

  • Euston RV Park

    December 17, 2022 in Australia

Euston RV Park used to have upper and lower sections. Only upper available due to flooding of the Murray. At least I have water views. The caravanning fun continues, the locking clip for the cutlery drawer is broken. We cannot get the drawer open or disassemble the latch. Need some smaller Allen keys. Job for tmwRead more

  • Port Augusta

    December 18, 2022 in Australia

Jeez max 36c as we arrived. Bit of a shock after leaving Canberra with max of 19c. At least we are at a powered site and can game aircon on. Water pump died today, hopefully get a new one tomorrow.

19 Dec. Turned up at Augusta Caravan and Camper repairs at 8am. They were awesome, had new pump installed and checked water tanks(and filled them) by 9am. Off to Streaky Bay

Arrived about 4pm just as a storm is heading in. Got set up just as the rain started. Headed into town to check out the pub. Early night.

  • Streaky Bay

    December 20, 2022 in Australia

Woke at 3am to the sound of rain and distant thunder. Checked the weather app and it was heading straight towards us. By 5am it was super loud and constant thunder and lightening. Then it just stopped and went silent. It just stopped. I thought we were going to get smashed. Overcast and rainy today with more storms forecasted .

Rain. and clouds went away and the sun came out. Been a nice snd hot 33c for most of the day

Came out to Perlubie Beach to check it out. We wanted to stay here but a new booking system came in WEF 19 Dec and only 30 sites available. They are all booked out. Funny enough on 20 we’re occupied. I would definitely stay there in the futureRead more

  • Port Lincoln

    December 23, 2022 in Australia

Pleasant drive from Streaky Bay to Port Lincoln this morning. The biggest disappointment so far on this trip is the weather. It is cold and blowy. It gets to
Maybe 20 or 22 during the day but a constant cold wind makes it feel colder. Walked down to
The jetty at the caravan park this evening and everyone was rugged up like it is winter. Had a great feed of local oysters and King George Whiting tonight. Let’s see what tomorrow brings

  • Fishery Bay

    December 24, 2022 in Australia

Went for a spin out to Fishery Bay, supposedly Port Lincoln’s most popular swimming beach. Too cold snd windy to swim. You can drive on to the beach but would have to lower the tire pressures, couldn’t be bothered for a quick look. If it warms up over the next few days might head back for a swimRead more

  • Sleaforth Bay

    December 24, 2022 in Australia

On the way back from Fishery Bay called in and checked out Sleaforth Bay, site of the Mary Ellis Shipwreck. The beach was rougher than Fishery Bay, more of a surf or surf fishing beach. The dunes were high enough for people to be sand surfingRead more

  • Port Lincoln

    December 25, 2022 in Australia

The weather gods have been kind this morning. Wind is down and currently about 26c. Had dinner last night at The Boston Bay Hotel, chilli Mussels and a local fish called Nannygai. Both meals great apart from the marauding seagulls.
Went for a walk around the coast from the van park towards town. Found a nice calm beach on the way, might call back there before we leave. Christmas lunch was at the Grand Tasman Hotel. Great feed and more Coffin Bay Oysters. Finally got a chance to put the drone up and take some shots near the caravan park

  • Lincoln National Park September Beach

    December 26, 2022 in Australia

Went for a spin out to Lincoln National Park (September Beach). 4 days ago there was a rotting whale carcass about 800m from the beach with great whites feasting on it. There are signs al over the national parking saying “Sharks seen feeding on whale carcass nearby”. Nothing to be seen today. Beautiful calm beaches though. Weather was the best it had been all trip, got up to 30c with very slight breezeRead more

  • Whyalla Playford

    December 27, 2022 in Australia

Drove from Port Lincoln to Whyalla. I should not have complained about the weather. The car showed 46c at about 3pm. Still 40c at 7pm, there was also a wind like a furnace.
The van park kept losing power. We came back
From town expecting a cool van but with the power outage the aircon did not restart. Van was a tad warm

There is a video attached that is probably the closest we have come to an accident in the van due to and idiot pulling out. We are travelling on the Lincoln Highway towards Whyalla at 100kph towing a 3 tonne van. This dickhead pulls out of the bush (not even a roadside stop) and pulls straight out in front of me. Very lucky there was no traffic coming the other way. I was expecting him to scrape the van. It was bloody hot and the dashcam had just started playing up, lucky to get the recording just after a reboot

  • Warooka

    December 29, 2022 in Australia

Could not get into any caravan parks as they are all booked solid with people crammed in. We found this free camp (donation) at Marooka, 7k from Point Turton. It is great, located next to the towns sports ground. When we turned up there was only one other van, now there is 16 vans, camper vans and tents. Went for a drive to Point Victoria and Marion Bay today. Blowing a gale and a cold wind. Hard to believe it was 46c a few days ago.Read more
