Medellin /day 1

I started to explore the city by a free walking tour. (realcitytours -> can recommend them!)
We learned a lot about the history and how the government fought against violence and poverty.
By building the cable car poor communities get the chance to be connected with the city center, so they could find a job or education. This is way Medellin people are really proud of their cable car because it’s standing for hope and change!
Overall education played a big part in turning the page in Colombia, it was offered for free, libraries were opened and critical places in the city were cleaned and transformed in public meeting points.
After the tour I went to the museum about the Colombian dark side of drugs /casa des memoras, to learn what effect the fight about drugs had on the whole country.
Overall it was really intense to see and hear so many cruel story’s and knowing that it’s not even 20 years ago. But on the other side the people were so friendly and interested in tourists because they are happy about us!Read more
