  • VIVA Colombia

Back on solid ground, first steps on Colombian ground!
I needed more than 24 hours to not sway to and fro, thinking I’m still on a boat! 🤣
We arrived in Cartagena, a beautiful colonial town! The old part is UNESCO culture heritage, colorful and busy, that’s because many colombian people celebrate New Year’s Eve there.

  • off to Cuba

Last day of this year - first day in Cuba!
Havana it is for the news years eve! I strolled through the streets full of contrasts & colors, everywhere music and people dancing! We celebrated midnight somewhere in the streets, unspectacular because all the Cuban celebrating at home in family.

  • Havana

Together we explored the streets of Havana, Vieja Havana with the picturesque old houses and plazas, monuments and cathedrals. We treated ourself with mojitos and enjoyed watching the streetlife.

  • Santa Clara

A quick stop over in Santa Clara where you can find Che Guevera mortal remains and a huge monument of him!
We went for a morning run to see the town and ended up in being a highlight 😂 two sporty european girls run the streets 🏃🏽‍♀️
In Santa Clara we saw a lot of „supermarkets“ all with a hilarious offer: from everything (ex. Shampoo) they only have one product and this in quantity.

  • Trindad / day 2

Day 2, exploring the every day life in Trinidad, a little bit shopping in the living room of the Cubans and going to the beach!
On our way to the beach we felt ashamed because we took a bike taxi, 12 km without any gear and us two in the back, he sweated his ass off. On the way back we went by car, a wooden Oldtimer for the same money :(
The pictures also showing our casa Particulares, home for 2 nights.

To let it all hang out, our next casa Particulares was perfect! Villla Sonia in La Boca is a wonderful place, huge garden with hangout spots, the best pina colada and great food!
The also have bikes to explore the beaches nearby.
After we didn’t have great food experiences yet in Cuba we tried the home made dinner! We asked for Lobster and we got it 🎉
    Happy sated girls!
(By the way, we payed 14€ for the dinner!!!)

  • Cienfuegos

    Next day next city,
    Cienfuegos - Cuba’s Paris!
We spent one night here, what is totally enough.
We did a sightseeing tour by bike to la Punta and enjoyed a sundowner.
Surprisingly we found a nice restaurant with super good food, live music and cocktails! On the way home I saw this kind of garage, right in the living room!

  • Travel day Cuba style

The plan was to leave Cienfuegos in the morning to Varadero, but our taxi collectivo didn’t show up! We tried to get another taxi but only for 2 it was to expensive so we decided to take the bus in the afternoon.
We spend the morning with exploring the shopping possibilities (awesome 😂) and found a really nice place for lunch.
Strengthened we started our 4h trip to Varadero!

  • Varadero

    Beachtime!
For the next four days we relaxed in Varadero and enjoyed the perfect beach!
Varadero isn’t so touristic as assumed when you stay in the town! (Compared to the hotel area at the end of the peninsula)
You can find small houses/casa particulares, pina colada booths and restaurants, but in a nice way.
The ocean is unbelievable cristall blue!
In the late afternoon we always found some blue jellyfish on the beach, never seen them before.

  • I love boattrips

    Failure!!!
But what did we expect - at last it’s an touristic area!
It was an all inclusive trip, so we thought we can drink for the invested money :)
The alcohol was so shit, cheap ron with soft drinks and beer! But we had to drink to survive the day! It started with animation and clapping hands when we arrived at the boat, old ladies danced before we even started and already drunken Russians 🤷🏽‍♀️
And it doesn’t get better, snorkeling was canceled because of the „rough“ sea, the beach - promised as Cayo Blanco, white sand beach - wasn’t as nice as Varadero beach and you couldn’t even escape all the people because there where no ways only trees next the beach!
We made the best out of it and treated ourself in the evening with a nice dinner - lobster of course! :)

  • Valle de vinales

Off to Vinales! After saying good bye to Mone 😢 i made my way in an Oldtimer to Vinales!
This little pretty town is surrounded by green valleys. In the evening the mainroad was closed and all restaurants placed their tables outside, every where little bars and of course music music music and dancing people! I watched this for 2 hours but from distance to not be asked the whole time to dance with crazy guys!

  • the perfect beach

Cayo Jutias - what a dream beach! White sand and blue sky dipping into the cristal blue ocean, the blue of the ocean changed every second depending on sun or clouds and you could walk for miles next to the water or into the water!
The ride to the beach was of course in an oldtimer and you felt every bump! :)
I met 2 nice guys and we finished the day with a pineapple pina colada! What a perfect day!

Oh not to forget we went out that night because they both love dancing salsa and so I also made it to the dancefloor! 🙈

This morning I treated myself with a proper breakfast! In my casa particular the breakfast was ok but nothing fresh either egg made from eggs (not that I needed eggs but this is mainly what you get)
The day I spend relaxing and in the late afternoon I started an evening hike with a small group. We visited a tobacco farm and a place for coffee and Schnaps.

Morning view from my casa particular with my private hammock where I spend a lot of time reading.
Today I did something I didn’t do a long long time and I was a little afraid of - horse ridding!
But this is the best way to enjoy the valley and see a lot!
So i was a brave girl and made friends with chocolate, my horse!
I had a private guide what was nice but also annoying because he tried to flirt the whole time with me. Nothing stopped him not even that I told I’ m married - he can offer me adventure 🤣🙈😩 But it was a nice ride and it’s really relaxing an the back of a horse!

  • Bye Vinales off to Havana one last time

Before I headed back to Havana some side story’s from Viñales:
    - in Cuba it’s not easy to buy something to snack, so you can imagine how happy I was about mentos and cookies 💯
    - soft ice cream, so delicious and only 5ct because I bought it by a local and paid in local currency
    - pina colada your style, to make it your way you get the whole bottle of ron to mix it
    - Dance and music happens everywhere in Cuba, even in front of a church with an old Ghettoblaster
    - you can learn salsa 💃🏽 everywhere, just stop at buildings/ rooms where you hear loud music - maybe people are inside teaching you for small money

  • Havana

My first heavy rainy day in Cuba! So I took it easy, chilled in a hotel lobby with WiFi (not usual and only for guests 🤞🏻) and waited! But like always after rain comes the sun! I walked down the Malecon because it’s said that the ocean is so wild after storms that the streets are under water from the high waves! I can confirm that by being totally wet too :)
Late afternoon the light was amazing for stroll through the city!

  • Last day in cuba

On my last day I did the mandatory bus sightseeing tour to see also parts of Havana that are more outside the centre and to learn a little bit more about the city.

Overall the city was for me to busy, too much cars and the dirty dust, crowded and loud... so off to new adventures, off to Columbia tomorrow!!!

  • Cuba -> Colombia

    2019年1月21日, キューバ ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

    Travelday!
    bye Cuba 🇨🇺
    hello Colombia again 🇨🇴

Today happens what every traveler is afraid of ...

Let’s start with the nice taxi driver who bought me (more or less) a whole banana tree 😂
I asked him to stop to buy 2 bananas, I wanted to do it by myself but he didn’t let me. So I got 10 or 12 bananas 🍌 I took 5 and the rest i gave him, his face was hilarious!

But then the struggle starts 🙄
For the check in the airline wanted to see when I’m leaving Colombia again.
I hadn’t book anything, but knowing when I’m leaving the country. But without any proof the didn’t check me in! Normally it’s easy to book something spontaneously but not in Cuba, where mobile data or WiFi isn’t available.
During a long discussion, the time was running, the flight was already closed I had the idea to fake something thanks Instagram! 🤣 they didn’t really accept it but couldn’t proof it’s wrong so luckily they booked me on the next fly! 🎊

  • Medellin /day 1

I started to explore the city by a free walking tour. (realcitytours -> can recommend them!)
We learned a lot about the history and how the government fought against violence and poverty.
By building the cable car poor communities get the chance to be connected with the city center, so they could find a job or education. This is way Medellin people are really proud of their cable car because it’s standing for hope and change!
Overall education played a big part in turning the page in Colombia, it was offered for free, libraries were opened and critical places in the city were cleaned and transformed in public meeting points.
After the tour I went to the museum about the Colombian dark side of drugs /casa des memoras, to learn what effect the fight about drugs had on the whole country.
Overall it was really intense to see and hear so many cruel story’s and knowing that it’s not even 20 years ago. But on the other side the people were so friendly and interested in tourists because they are happy about us!

I think the most colorful little village I’ve ever been!
We started early in the morning for a day trip to Guatapé, 3h from Medellin.
After a typical breakfast (arepa & egg) we got a short sightseeing tour with some explanations about the sockets and the meaning of the pictures and colors.
