• Julia Creek

After 2 big days of driving, we called into Julia Creek for a rest.

We had it on good authority that the creek was full of red claw, so we were on a mission.

On the way into the free camp we discovered another little, more private camp on the river. We stopped here instead, hoping that we had more of a chance of getting red claw, as we were the only ones there.

We put the pots straight in, and that night the boys pulled out 7. Brett and Lachie got up to check them early in the morning, but there was only 1. We decided to move the pots to a new location.

The kids spent the day, making live bait traps out of soft drink bottles and using the live bait to catch big, ugly cat fish!

The kids were exhausted from their late night and days adventures, so it fell to me to go check the traps with Brett. It was a horrid walk, in torch light along the muddy bank and through the spider trees 😬. But the effort paid off, we got another 7 in one of the traps.

We saved them all up to cook together. When we sat down to eat them we were all excited, as the cherabin had been so good, but unfortunately Brett was the only one who liked the red claw!
